weather watch company unless they discontinue airing Rush Limbaugh's talk show...

Do you have more information on the issue?
What does one have to do with the other?
Can they really do that in a heavy hurricane area(Florida) like that?
Can they really do that because of political reasons?

I saw a report over that as well.

I don't know if there is any legal relief before the fact (though I'd hope). I know that there would be after the fact.

Does it seem like anyone listening would be considered "expendable," since they are likely republicans, or right of center?

Sounds like a really nasty game of Russian roulette. The left should be ashamed.

Broward County. Remember them? The county with all of the recount issues in the 2000 election.

The (ALL DEMOCRAT) council did not want to support a radio station that ran Rush Limbaugh and other conservative talk shows.

In the end, given that the radion station has the HIGHEST RATINGS i.e. larget listening audience and that this station did exceptionally well with the last hurricane AND that they are now embarrased that the worl knows of thier stupidity, they have backed down and reversed course.

The radio station, being the bast suited for the task will ratain the contract.

In Miami the radio station with the current right to air emergency news (about hurricanes, tornadoes, etc.) is a right wing radio station. The local Democratic city commission asked why they had the exclusive right, why not share the rights with an alternative station? Rush and Hannity made a big deal about the commission trying to play politics when that was not the intention at all. The commissions point is that not everyone listens to right wing radio, in fact the station with the rights had poor ratings, so the commission wanted the emergency news to be broadcasted to a variety of stations so the news would be spread faster to everyone affected.

Well, if the weather watch company is a private company, then yes they can. If they don't feel that the man represents what they would like the public to view them as being, then they can refuse to continue service. Every company can do that. It happens in the world all the time - it is called sponsoring.
