Your Dog or Africa?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today in my HIS 221 (Modern Europe) class with Professor Beasley, we discussed the selfish nature of all humans. In one example, Professor Beasley gave us two options. The dog you've had for 10 years and sleep with/feed/cuddle etc is being chopped to bits in front of your eyes, and there's nothing you can do as the killer makes mince-meat or your beloved best friend. Your other option? To let everyone in Africa starve/die. In a class of about 20 individuals (including myself) only two people chose the first option. (I chose the second)

I found this pretty intriguing, so I'm gonna post it here, to see what you guys think. I'm guessing the much more liberal Teenspot will have a differing view.

Afghanistan, Iraq...now perhaps Iran. Why have all the right-wing Christians turned away from the Bible and pursue and encourage the constant war? Do any of you actually read the Bible? This could also be applied to how some speak about homosexuals and other people that are deemed "sinners" by the right. Apparently it is the "godless" liberals who seem to understand God's message to us the best. Is this ironic, or what?

"Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. For, Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech. He must turn from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it." (1 Peter 3:8-11)

I'm going to be subletting my apartment for all of next year (signed lease early - stupid). However, I obviously need to write up a contract to avoid all damages and unpaid rent.

My question is, what makes a contract official? What's the difference between signing a contract to pay for say, a membership somewhere, and some dude just writing something and someone else signs it and it has no meaning? Do I need to get a lawyer involved or something? I know that I definitely need to get a unrelated witness to sign it as well.

Basically, I just want something to ASSURE myself ZERO liability once that subletter signs my contract. How do I ensure that?

I kind of doubt it because China has the world's largest military and Russia has a lot of missles.

Peru, the world's No. 2 cocaine producer, should launch air strikes and machine-gun attacks to destroy jungle drug factories and airstrips used by traffickers, President Alan Garcia said on Monday. "We've got to finish every last cocaine factory and every last airport. Use the A37 planes, bomb and attack these airports, these cocaine factories with machine guns," Garcia said, directing his comments to the country's interior minister, who is in charge of the police that lead the fight against drugs.

Peru is the second-largest producer of cocaine in the world after Colombia.

"I'm not willing to be blackmailed ... I'm not going to be a straw doll or puppet of the political fears," said Garcia, who took office in July.

According to official figures, Peruvian police raided 718 cocaine factories last year and seized 14.7 tons of partially processed cocaine. They also destroyed more than 25,000 acres of illegal crops of coca, the plant used to make cocaine.

I find this telling of our corrupt world of politics.
Any corrections, disagreements?

I have been selected for jury duty three weeks from now, but the same day I am supposed to show up to court I have to do something school related. I have to go to an exhibition in Gainesville, Florida for architecture pin-ups. I was wondering if I could get away by saying that I have to go to school that day? I have never done this so I have no clue if that is possible. Thanks

If so, you probably listen to Rush Limbaugh, Shawn Hannity or Michael Savage.
You're more likely a male between 35 and 55 with at least a high school diploma and a few years of college. Your income is between $30,000 and $60,000 a year. You voted republican in 2004. You are more likely to be conservative than moderate. You watch Fox news rather than CNN and get some of the news off the internet. Your favorite sport is football.

Does this sound like you, Dittoheads?
