They are not lazy and slacking. They are very energetically trying to make the country safe for crooks, that's all. It's nothing to worry about. To paraphrase Donald Rumsfeld, "Corruption happens."

No, the government isn't lazy or slacking. They don't want a democracy. Iraq is a country divided by religious sects. You will never find a Sunni that will let a Shi'a legislate and vice versa. Then there are the Kurds who don't want either of the others "ruling".

Our jerk of a President knows absolutely NOTHING about the Iraqi people. If he did, he would never have invaded the country.

He only went in for the oilfields anyway...and he doesn't even have those....

No matter what side of the fence anyone sits on, Americans want this Middle East "thing" cleared up neatly and quickly, like a TV sitcom problem that's solved in a half an hour.

It would appear though, that after 200 years, the United States is STILL working the bugs out of its own, "perfect union".

As the situation is, they just cannot govern their country in a democratic way!
The problem is that Iraq consists of three totally different people, the Shiite, the Sunni and the Kurds.
As thelasti said, it takes a dictator like Saddam Hussein to keep them under one hat! In that country democrazy will never work.

Unfortunately, I feel the Iraqi people themselves, in general, have not stepped up to the plate.
It appears at present that they have more allegiance to their own particular faction or sect than they have for their fellow country men or their country.
We can give them all of the humanitarian and military aide we can muster, but if the people aren't willing to fight for their own rights and freedom, it will all be in vane.

I'm still not real sure what the hell we are doing over there. They don't even think the same way we do over there. I would have to assume that after we leave, they'll go back to just the way they were before we arrived.

The only thing that works is a dictatorship no other form of government works in that region.
