You can try the Jury Commissioners or the Court Administrator for your local/county court. If you explain the circumstances, you may get excused.
However, in my area of Pennsylvania, they rarely excuse anybody for any reason other than a health or healthcare reason.
Don't consider not reporting. In some jurisdictions, they fine you for that.
If you give a certain kind of answers during voir dire questioning, you might be excused right away.

Normally you can re-schedule your duty date by filling out the initial form they sent you and mailing it back. You actually can pick your duty date going that route, and they'll try to match your preference or give you the closest date to your first choice (starting with that day, no earlier). However, because you only have three weeks, I'm assuming that window of opportunity is long gone.
There should be a number available for you to call the court office(s). Your best bet would be to give them a ring and say you have something going on and need to reschedule if it's at all possible. You don't need to tell them why. Depending on the court and people you're talking to will depend on how responsive they are in letting potential jurors go for academic issues. Some will support you, some won't, so I'd leave that discussion out. You're not required to tell them where you need to be, just that you can't be there. They should be able to re-schedule you.
Good luck!

It really depends on the State you live in. I once got out of jury duty because I was attending school in another city. They are usually good at working with you.

Read your summons, and call the courthouse. I know in Texas students are not required to attend jury duty, for just the reason you stated, there are educational liabilities if you are chosen. And actually, jury summons are not certified letters, there is no way they can ever prove you received it.

Not likely - but you can try. How strict the courts are varies a great deal. Contact them and see - its about your only option!
but if you do serve - don't forget about the concept of 'jury nullification"!!

The letter you received in the mail gives you the option of serving a different day if you absolutely have to. Look over it again, and send your response in.
