OK, having watched countless cop movies and action flicks, I wonder: Who assigns the law enforcement officer his/her weapon, buddy, and ride? Some movie cops get pea-shooter revolvers while others get semi-automatics or even shotguns. The protagonist usually gets a .45 Colt. Some film policemen get standard cruisers or off-road SUVs. The protagonist usually drives a sweet-looking detective car. Why does the hero usually get to dress in stylish home-clothes while the rest have to wear uniform? And how are their buddies assigned to them? Can the partner be of the opposite sex?
I'm asking this because I'm writing a detective short story and I need to know how these procedures are done. Thanks for answering!

Whats with that? Even worse through out the news coverage it always sounded as though the "Perps' were being portrayed as the victims. Those 3 girls were hurt pretty badly and those kids are just going to walk, I think it's VERY wrong ,How about you?

They just throw money to the congressmen so that they can pass whatever law it is that they want. it's like the government is saying: "we could care less about people from the middle class and lower". The whole government is full of crooked people.

I understand that other countries need help but now is the time to concentrate on our own people. We need to band together to come up with more solutions to poverty in America. We have a growing problem here and it needs to be addressed. If we don't care of our own then how can we effectively help others? I would be more than eager to head up an organization that supports Americans. If we can't help our "own" then how can we even begin to help others?

I don't know about everybody else, but I don't think the government should have the right to listen in on our phone conversations, look at my phone records, read my mail, read my email, or look at what i have been looking at on the internet.

I'm 8.5 months pregnant. The father wanted me to have an abortion when he found out, and I chose to keep the baby. He left me, and then came back for a very very brief period when I was about 3 months pregnant. I haven't spoken to him in 5 months now... and the last time I spoke to him he was screaming at me saying that he was going to "Come down on my ***" in court and take the baby away. Throughout my pregnancy I've tried to just forget it - I've been working and going to school full time - paying all medical bills by myself. But as the time gets closer, I'm becoming TERRIFIED. I mean, after the baby is here, my lawyer will be filing for child support, and I'm not even sure that it's worth it!! I'm terrified that he'll be able to get my child... his family is wealthy... How probable is this? What can I do? What can HE do? I would appreciate ANY advice.

As the mother of a young US Marine who has had three friends from bootcamp die in the Middle East, my heart seems to never stop aching from what I see and hear on the news. I can't imagine a world without world, but is it possible? So many good people, on both sides of the world are dying and it seems to be escalating every day. Are there any Yahooers out therel with a common sense, and non political view of how we as common Americans can change things? I don't want to bury my Marine nor do I want to see anymore good young people die, either here or in other parts of the world. Is it time for mothers to make a stand? Can we make a difference? If ALL mothers came together and worked to end the war, do you think we would have a chance? Your thoughts please. Thank you.
