To my knowledge, cities and towns do not have elections for the chief of police. They are usually chosen by the mayor and/or city council. Yet in most counties, there are political elections for the office of sheriff. Why is there a difference between the two? Why do not the county’s government choose a sheriff among a candidate pool and leave it up to voters who might not be privy to how the office functions?

I would appreciate well-thought out answers. Thanks in advance.

Moving violation, Avoiding an Intersection, issued by Nassau County police, New York State.

This ticket is on year old. Is there a statute of limitations for traffic infractions ?

Obviously, I have NOT received a speedy trial.

I'm afraid there might be a judgment against me, or a warrant that I haven't received any notice about.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Does everyone understand how our governemnt works? That our president doesn't get to make up what our country does or doesn't do as he goes? That all laws and government actions need to be approved by a whole bunch of other people we vote for? Everyone is so quick to judge George Bush for the war, or this or that, but what about the senators and legislators we vote for that supposedly represent you? Did you guys even bother to vote for them, or are you too busy running around yelling about what a bad job the president is doing..

Senator Obama has this problem, among others. Do you think he could overcome this "bump in the road" and win anyway? What about his two years as a student in a Muslim school in Indonesia when he was a young child, or his revelation that his maternal family is distantly related to Jefferson Davis, President of the CSA during the Civil War? Isn't that a riot, that Obama is related to Jefferson Davis, of all people?

Everyone knows that Bushs approval ratings are very very low...and mostly because of Iraq. I am a rep..and I don't agree with how Iraq has been handled either...I want to know what people think about his domestic plans....Health care, immigration, taxes....we all now about the war....what about the other things...we don't hear about them anymore.....What do you think about the domestic issues Bush proposed last night. Agree or Disagree and why?

I have received two summons in the past six months to appear for jury duty. I didn't go to the first one, and I thought they would stop bothering me, but I received another!!! If I don't go to the recent one, what would happen? Will I have to pay a fee?

I moved to Canada recently after spending almost ten years in a country with private medical care and I have to say that the care Canadians recieve is absolutely disgusting. Emergency wait times of up to 10 hours, waiting 6 months to see a specialist or weeks for an MRI, a third of the country without a primary care physician. Could things be much worse??

Don't get me wrong, I believe that everyone deserves healthcare and that it should be a right but I think there has to be a point where we draw the line. I mean, is it really fair for someone who has worked hard for years to have to go behind some lazy criminal or unemployed person who pays no taxes?

This alone makes me want to leave Canada because I am terrified of becoming ill.

What do you think?

He does have a disabled parking permit, but obviously that was in the car as we were parked in a disabled bay. Does anyone know what I can use to prove his disability please?

Will you still support the man?

Or will you finally concede that Bush has been in all-out war against the working people in thie country for the benefit of the wealthiest.

If his plan passed, it would be the end of employer-provided health insurance in this country.

I am currently a fulltime freshman student at a big University. I am an average student at best, and school has never really been my thing. Since my senior year of high school I have thought about joining the military. One of the main reasons is for the dicipline and mental toughness it would bring me. If I did this I would go back to school after, hopefully with a new appreciation for getting my degree and working hard.
I still don't have a major and have no idea what I want to do in life. I have an athletic backround and love the idea of being able to use that in the military. I know in the end its up to me, but I would really appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Ok so heres the deal... My friend is a school teacher and she was telling me about these 2 kids who were fighting on the school grounds. I was immediately hit with the idea that I would send her to school with a camcorder to start recording these fights and start making tapes called "Kids Gone Wild" and selling them on the internet. I am totally willing to give half of the profits to her seeing she is going to be recording it.

My 2 questions are this... Is this an untapped resource that you would be willing to buy into?? Secondly, does anyone know of a lawyer I could speak too regarding the legalities on getting the ball rolling with this project?

According to James Madison, "Father of the Constituion", who only happened to be an author of the Constitution, "I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents."

So, how do we reconcile the current popular wisdom that it is the government's job, with the fact that nowhere in the Constituion is this authority granted to the Federal government?
