Does everyone understand how our governemnt works? That our president doesn't get to make up what our country does or doesn't do as he goes? That all laws and government actions need to be approved by a whole bunch of other people we vote for? Everyone is so quick to judge George Bush for the war, or this or that, but what about the senators and legislators we vote for that supposedly represent you? Did you guys even bother to vote for them, or are you too busy running around yelling about what a bad job the president is doing..

Great point, I think the liberal cut and run crown have no idea that the vote for the Iraq war was overwhelmingly passed by both dems and repubs. They saw the same WMD intell. They just need something to b*tch about if it wasn't Iraq it would be global warming of the moon or some other stupid thing. They need something to appease and something stupid to champion.

The buck stops with the President. It may not be fair, but that is part of being the President. You have to take the good with the bad. I think people could have handled the problems with the war if Bush hadn't repeatedly said that things were going well when the American people can see for themselves that it is not. His inflexibility on the issue has also hurt him.

I agree, however the President does has the final say. I don't blame everything on him,but he could have said no to a whole list of issues regarding -Corporate tax cuts, the top 1% of all the richest people in the country getting huge tax breaks and this quagmire of a war we are embedded in now..So I just hope he does what he promised last night.

Waaaallllllllll.......... It's just too damn complicated to answer quickly. Sorry.
I do vote for each candidate I'm offered after careful consideration of their capabilities and my agenda vs theirs. Then I visit them and try to encourage them to act the way I think is correct. I hope everyone will do this a couple of times a year. If we keep them busy enough talking to us maybe they won't screw up as often.
To the larger part of your query.
First, one must find people who actually agree about the state of the nation and what direction we should take in all the areas that matter: from which TP to purchase for public restrooms to when to use nuclear bombs, then you must decide who has the Constitutional obligation to make the appropriate decisions about each issue -- one by stinkin one -- then you must look at the votong records, the leadership the President gave in the area, or if he vetoed a bill in the right direction, why, then you must figure out which lobbying group killed your favorite pork barrel project because they needed theirs funded, then you must determine a definiton for the word 'lie', as in to prevaricate slightly, or maybe 'I did not 'lay' that (trailor trash) woman', make certain all quotes are absolutely correct, and while you're at it maybe look up definitions for 'victory', 'honor', 'sacrifice', democracy, etc. Oh, and study a lot of history.
Then when it is all boiled down you'll reach the rational conclusion that all the Congressmen combined cannot and have not (in this particular case) done as much damage as one ill-advised, misled, self sanctified, bull headed moron, George Hubris Bush.
