I have received two summons in the past six months to appear for jury duty. I didn't go to the first one, and I thought they would stop bothering me, but I received another!!! If I don't go to the recent one, what would happen? Will I have to pay a fee?

The reason I can't go is because I'm having some financial hardship right now and can't afford to miss a day of work.

I've only received one summons and that was 13 years ago. I had every right to be excused due to both of my daughters being very sick at the time (one with chicken pox and the other getting over pneumonia), but I stuck it out and have never received another summons since.

Just do it and get it over with or you will continue receiving summons after summons.

Good luck!

It is your duty to report for jury duty, therefore you should go.

They will not stop 'bothering' you. The judge _will_ issue a bench warrant for you, probably citing 'contempt of court', unless your state/county has a specific term for avoidance of jury duty.

The police probably will not chase you down for that particular thing, but it will show up if you ever get a traffic check, a police check for any reason (such as employers do), a parking ticket maybe, a credit check....

You will likely have to pay a fine.
You will probably have a 'record' after all is said and done.

If you are unhappy with the way a lot of trails end consider that you choose not to participate. In ther words jury duty matters, is important and you should go. If you skip the worst that happens is to be arrested. That does not happen often, or you get a jury like OJ and a murderer walks.

True Americans are not "bothered" by jury service. You offered no explanation for why you didn't appear as ordered, which begs that question.

But to directly respond to your question, you could be held in contempt and fined. Too bad jail is not an option.

Do your duty (no pun intended).

You must report to jury duty or they will keep harrassing you until you do. Also I think the court has the right o hold you in comtempt. Just show up on your next scheduled day and act like an idiot and they won't pick you for trial.

Yes you need to appear, the judge can hold you in contempt. A jury summons is a legal order to appear.

I'm not sure what the charges are, but here it is a crime NOt to answer a summons. I wouldn't take the chance. Next time you may not be so lucky.
I am excused because I am the primary care taker for my elderly parents (ages 91 and 87). And they have health concens so I have to be here at all times.

You should go, not because of the legality of it...but because that is one of the duties was as Citizens should take if asked......we have a right to trial by jury....we have to duty to serve on that jury if asked...its that simple.....as much as it might suck....its a small price to pay for the liberties we have.
