Here's the deal. In September I was arrested for a DWI,in NYS however the charges were reduced to a DWAI. I am thinking of signing up for the police test but don'twant to waste my time if I'm never going to get hired because of my DWAI. Thank you.

You are not automatically disqualified from being a police officer. I am in a similar situation in Indiana where the original charge was a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) same as a DWI I'm sure. Mine was plead down to a reckless driving and I have spoken with many different agencies who have all told me that as an individual I would have to have many other positives in my background (college degree, volunteer work, etc.) to outweigh the negative of being originally charged with the DUI. I don't know what a DWAI is but if it is a reduced charge from a DWI you are still in the running. My advice would be to make sure you do the other positive things (degree, volunteer, etc) to counter the negative charge against you. Good Luck

You have a 100% chance of NOT being hired by the NY State Police or ANY police agency anywhere.

nope your done, the police department do not and will not hire people who have been convicted of DUI. Its just hypocritical for them to have someone arresting people for DUI who have been convicted of DUI. It is just a bad image. Plus they won't feel they can trust you behind the wheel of a car. Sorry but you're done man.
