Moving violation, Avoiding an Intersection, issued by Nassau County police, New York State.

This ticket is on year old. Is there a statute of limitations for traffic infractions ?

Obviously, I have NOT received a speedy trial.

I'm afraid there might be a judgment against me, or a warrant that I haven't received any notice about.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

To those responding - PLEASE NOTE -
On the back of the summons, I checked off the 'Not Guilty' box, pleading not guilty by mail, also checked off the box 'Deposition Requested' and mailed the summons to the court, certified mail, return receipt requested. I received the return receipt. The information on back of the summons said I would receive a court date in the mail. About two months later, I received the 'so called deposition' by regular mail from the police precinct, a 1 page document signed (NOT notarized) by the issuing officer, simply saying "Avoiding an intersection" with NO detailed information whatsoever. I subsequently received a notice for the court with a court date, but it specifically stated that "if you have pleaded Not Guilty to disregard this notice".

10 to 1 there's a judgment against you and all kinds of fees accruing every week you don't pay this judgment and it's just going to spiral out of sight and you'll have to pay whatever it ends up being. You can't get out of these. I came back to my car and found the meter still not expired and a parking ticket that was post-timed for 20 minutes later for an expired meter - I called the police station and informed them of this and they would do nothing. That's Boston of course - they may be worse than NY. I also got a speeding ticket in Wellesley - there is a speed trap but on top of it, the sign that tells you the speed limit goes down 20 MPH had been missing for two years and was curiously replaced a week after a cop had been out handing out speeding tickets. I went to the Wellesley DPW and got the work orders for the sign and took them to my hearing to prove what the police were up to. THAT ticket I got overturned. What bastards though - I had to take a whole day out of work to do this. They prey upon people, giving them tickets that are obviously complete BS because they know 90% of the people are unconfrontational, too busy to take a whole day out of work to challenge the ticket, or both, and that's how they make their salaries. And they pick on regular, working people, commuters, etc... because it's a lot safer than going out and trying to catch gang members. So they're liars AND p u s s i e s these cops.

I think with a ticket you are pleading not quilty you have to go to the clerks office to file you cannot just send in a ticket pleading not guilty you should not be surprise if you get pulled over again there is an outstanding warrant for you. And no they don't always notify you,

On the speeding ticket there was a court date listed that you had to attend if you were pleading not guilty. You obviously missed that. You probably should call the court house and find out what to do.

if you mail in a not guilty plea, then depending on how things work in your state, they will contact you with a hearing date, or that date on the ticket was your hearing date and you missed it meaning there is a warrant out for your arrest not. I suggest you check on this.

Lay low for a few more years, Statute of limitations will run out

You need to check it out. Sad to say, but if there is anything against you, you are not going to solve it by laying low.
