I'm new to the arena of politics, so please don't e-shoot me/ "flame" me. I'm simply seeking e-means to historical stats of the US government, so that I have impartial info from which to create my own views.

I've tried watching the news and reading the newspapers and news sites, but I don't like any of the US media. I've also tried BBC, but still, I'm reading other people's opinions.

Point blank is that I have a hard time sifting through everyone else's opinions, and I'd like to find a format that will allow me to view history as it happened, so that I can form my own views.

For instance, I just happened on the CSPAN site whereupon I found archives of the State of the Union Address transcripts from 1945 on. I am interested in finding out about congressional minutes, votes, speeches, anything that is a "hard fact" and not some journalist's opinion.

I hope you can understand what it is that I am trying to ask for. Any related info will be helpful. Thank you very much.

Why does Bush continue to confuse the public that the war in Iraq is indicative of a purported strategy against terrorism in which, as he said in his state of the union address, "one question has surely been settled — that to win the war on terror we must take the fight to the enemy." Why is he still trying to say that Iraq was some kind of a terrorist state?

Further issues he still confounds for everyone: "From the start, America and our allies have protected our people by staying on the offense." The war in Iraq cannot "protect" the U.S. from another terrorist attack, and it never will. Osama was never caught, so how are we protected by bombing Iraq and Afghanistan or anywhere else in the Middle East?

Doesn't it occur to Congress that the easiest thing we can do to minimize our losses in Iraq is to make amends with the International Community - and what better gesture than to remove Bush and Cheney from office for unilateral behavior in an international situation. We can turn to the UN who has people that can better address the Iraqi situation and we can work with them toward a peaceful end. I would think that now that Hussein is gone that Bush could feel proud of his accomplishments as President and could see this as a viable solution and step down voluntarily - don't you?

From his speech:
"We must continue changing the way America generates electric power — by even greater use of clean coal technology ... solar and wind energy ... and clean, safe nuclear power... We must continue investing in new methods of producing ethanol — using everything from wood chips, to grasses, to agricultural wastes."

But then he said,
"...to further protect America against severe disruptions to our oil supply, I ask Congress to double the current capacity of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. America is on the verge of technological breakthroughs that will enable us to live our lives less dependent on oil."

Sounds like Bush isn't talking about less usage as much as he's talking about where to get the oil (i.e., not from the Middle East). Less than two years left in office and suddenly Bush is an environmental advocate? Doesn't he just want to chop up our forests and dig in Alaska and wherever else the oil is in the U.S. in the most unrestriced manner possible?

and it's body has little or no aerodynamic qualities,
How the bloody hell can it fly?

I did not here anything about the help in rebuilding Louisiana. I didn't hear him talk about New Orleans and the efforts he will put in place for those still homeless, and those who are victims of crime there on a daily basis.

Why are we spending hundreds of billions of our tax dollars on rebuilding a foreign interest like Iraq and not sending any money in helping to rebuild one of our own 50 states?

Since when did foreign interests come first to America's immediate needs?

Is this the kind of leadership we want?

You could go take a test and get a liscense like you would to drive a car.

In actuality, the British, Australians, Canadians, French, and especially the Soviets, had fought the hardest battles and done most of the dirty work before the American men chose to get off their fat, lazy arses and do something.

Same thing in the First World War -- the USA only entered after they saw that our side was winning. Then the bastards had the cheek to say they won the war! Tossers!!

Hi,

I have an Indian passport that I got it when I was with my parents (before marriage). After my marriage due to some family dispute, me and my wife have saperated out and staying in a rented place.

My wife's name is still in her parent's ration card and my name is with my parent's ration card. And I cant get her name included in my parent's ration card and my in-laws may not want to have my name in their ration card.

Now, as we are staying in a rented accomodation, is it possible to get a seperate ration card? and on that basis passport for my wife? or do we apply for her passport using her parent's address? or Is it possible to apply for passport using our current address?

We are going to shift to our own place (which is under construction) but it will take some time (6-8 months) meanwhile, I need passport for her.

Please suggest if anyone has ever heard or experienced such a thing.

The government want us to use public transport to save the enviroment ,but when i priced up to go to london by train with my partner and son it worked out at a £149.95 return ,yet the same cost by car would be around £40. (diesel car) around (£110 less).
So if these lot in power really wanted us to us public transport to save the enviroment ,why don't they try and make public transport cheaper?
Any views on this?
I live around 140 miles from london
