They scary part of that is - civilians would likely not be covered under the Geneva convention, especially since Bush has chosen to ignore it completely.
Any civilian going over there would be at far greater risk than military personnel.

No. The military doesn't want me. I'm definitely NOT military material. I'm a rabble rouser without unconditional respect for authority. If I'm asked nicely to do something I'll do it in a heartbeat, but I don't take well to being ordered around.
Besides, I'm too old to go through basic training. I'd never make it anyway.

F'no. Not for a war without reason or benefit (FOR AMERICA!). Plus, you know, when fighting these kind of folks - the civilians are 10x more targeted than armed soldiers.

The war is open ended, and that wont hold up for much longer with the 3rd and stressful deployment of the same troops. Bush has cashed in everything, and I don't see any improvement.

What I want to know is: does "volunteer" mean that you don't get paid?
I won't be volunteering. I am disabled and over the age for the military, of course, I served in Vietnam, Richard Nixon's war.

Absolutely, yes. I would and will go in a heartbeat if they will take me.. I've raised my kids and I owe it to my country to give back for the blessings I have enjoyed by being an American all these years. I also owe it to our troops to stand beside them and do my part.
My goodness, based on the responses you are getting, so much for supporting the troops and patriotism.

Is this what it meant? It would be kinda neat. Dangerous but good experience and save on our troops and maybe get the job done sooner.
