I would define terrorism as intentional hit and run attacks directed toward a civilian population designed to instill fear and unrest with the ultimate goal of affecting a political change in the country or population targeted. This is generally used when the attacking force is inferior to the receiveing sides military. It is so popular because the attackers need not confrount the superior military of its target. By this definition the twin towers was definitely terrorism. The pentagon attack??? Well that is kinda a military target so I'd call it a chicken s__t gorrilla attack boarderline terror attack. The attacks on our military in Iraq are terrible but not terrorism in and of themselves because they are definitely military targets. When the same slimey "insurgents" set a bomb off in a marketplace, They instantly become terrorists. I hope that clerifies the issue. jason

Terrorism is the unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons. The way we can minimize it is to work for social justice, and to not glorify it in the media.

Terrorism is when you try to cause political change buy attacking the general population.
Crime is not terrorism even though they attack the average person because they are not making a political message.
War is not terrorism because it is two or more armies engaged to change political reality. Average citizens may be killed in war but they are not the specific targets.

The meaning of terrorism?. Hmmm... It's confusing to define it now. From the time G W Bush introduced his own meaning of this word, it had confused me ever since.
I can only remember it something like "If you're not with G W Bush, you're with the terrorists".

Terrorism is simply manipulation of citizenry by conducting actions that instill great fear in any given populace.
Believe it or not, even so-called "friendly" leaders can be terrorists, in essence, when they use fear-tactics (including manipulated press-releases and claiming falsehoods) to manipulate their people.
Ain't it grand? :-(
