I posted this in an answer and wondered what people would think:

A much easier way to solve both the welfare and illegal problems is to require proof of citizenship at the welfare counter.

Then, if legal non-citizen residents couldn't get on welfare without being naturalized (essentially having to prove themselves as productive workers), most people would have fewer problems with making legal residency easier for otherwise law-abiding immigrants.

some folks in these forums say that corporal punishment is a good thing- personally I think it makes the problem infect future generations with similar attitudes -

That's much, much worse!!! So, don't excuse what he did away simply because you think it is OK to be gay. Also, I really don't think this should be politicized. Pedophile should be universally condemned regardless of your politics. I am a Republican and I think what he did was abhorent! He preys on kids and, yes, 16 is still a kid. Democrat or Republican, we should condemn this and anyone who knew about it and covered it up, regardless of who it was. We need to protect our kids! What are your thoughts on this? Do you agree?
