some folks in these forums say that corporal punishment is a good thing- personally I think it makes the problem infect future generations with similar attitudes -

so if YOU were beaten or psychologically abused in torture- maybe as a mistaken innocent or not- would you be mad, hurt, angry, looking for revenge later in life?

When do human beings start to turn away from the downward spiral- or do we just destroy each other to the ultimate dimise of civilization?

Torture is against the American Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Torture of prisoners of war is against the Geneva Convention rules America signed, and agreed to, after WWII as a humanitarian Government.

People never think that the tables could ever be turned on them. So as long as we only torture terrorists, then it's all good...until of course you are labeled a terrorists...then life will suck pretty badly.

Some of us have had family lives that have given us a little insight into corporal punishment. You can tell who we are because we keep arms length distance from people, we don't like to hug people, and we often will involuntarily flinch when people try to touch us. I speak from unfortunate experience.

Now magnify that by 100 X and you know how a tortured person might respond.

Pain is always good until you are the one feeling it.

do you know how to make a dog really mean? you chain him up and punish him every day until he becomes so mean he can't stand him self, then you pit him against another dog who has been treated the same way, then you have a dog fight until one is dead, and the same goes with humans, as is already known by putting our people in prison and torturing them then they become as the mistreated dogs, and it is ironical that so many people will yell bloody murder when word gets out that our soldiers mistreated some terrorist but, say that the prisoners of their own race, faith, deserve to be mistreated because of their crimes, do they forget the terrorist who has been trying to kill lots of innocent people , and the majority of the prisoners in our prisons are there for mostely stupid laws our ignorant policy makers deemed would be illegal, plus the fact that it is estimated 47 %of those incarcerated is not guilty, they just didn't have the money for justice, so a court appointed atty, who could not get any business on his own was appointed to represent to defend them, and this atty' did what he was paid to do, get the man convicted,
our prison system is no more than torture cells for humans, but, it also makes a select few richer and gives them more power over others, and what most want is the power as it corrupts completely, and they will yell the loudest for more law and order as they are above the law, and any one who thinks the courts are fair , you had better think again. if you are arrested for any thing maybe a neighbor or some one who don't like you and decides to get you arrested it is very easy to do, youhave a 99%chanch of going to prison, HOW EASY WE FORGET.
Does any one remember the Gary Powers incident ?? he was shot down in a U-2 spy plane over Russia in the 60s and was being tried in a soviet court,as a spy our coutry and propaganda cranked up and wanted him tried in a world court , as Russia had a 92 % convicton rate, they showed our conviction rate, the states had a 46%conviction rate, the gov, had a 64 %conviction ratio they contended a man could get a fair trial in America, with those ratios, but never with a 92%conviction ratio, DO YOU AGREE?
hmm now our courts have a 98.8%conviction ratio, so if you are arrested you will be convicted guilty or not, and you will be sent to a prison where you will have your *** whipped every time you don't say yes sir or no sir or so many different reasons this space won't accomadate them, you will sleep on a concrete floor wit one dirty blanket , nothing else, you can use your shoes for a pilow if the guard is not having a bad day, you will be fed slop that no self respecting pig would eat, and you won't complain about the noise or else you will get your head bashed in, you will freeze at night and burn up in the day time, you might get a shower once a week 3 minutes limit, if the guards are in a sweet mood you will get out in the sunshine for one hour some days, if you don't move fast enough or stumble you will get a shoe in your ***, I think that is enough so you will get the point, and don't even try to think , they will do that for you, now, all of you hollier than thou law abiding citizens tell me why so many men who come out of prison always ends back up in prison, remember you your kids or both may be in prison before long, I do hope so, then you won't judge your fellow man so harshely,

As a child my mother used a belt on my behind daily. She figured that in the time I was away from her, at school, I must have done something wrong that needed her form of correction. She told me as a small child that the reason she disciplined me was because she loved me and wanted me to grow up to be a good man.

She truly believed that to spare the rod is to spoil the child. She even said that somewhere in the Bible it says that a parent needs to leave welts on their child's behind.

Nowadays, using a belt on children is considered to be child abuse.

Compared to how children act these days, I was an angel, and they don't get whippings. Perhaps sparing the rod does spoil the child.

So yes, I resent all the whippings I received. My butt is even covered with spider veins and vericose veins and I blame those, too my Mom's whippings, but maybe they'd be there anyway. I'll never know for sure, will I?

Incidentally, my father never laid a hand on me.

I don't want to be tortured or beaten because I know for a fact that after having an abusive husband it is a life trauma that you never get over and it affected my family and children and friends. I don't look for revenge but I do think about it almost daily and it has been 25 years ago.

Many people (including me) have been abused in our childhood. Many of us have psycholical problems, but our behaviors are widely different. And we can recover for the most part, if we have enough help and are willing to change.

As far as torture, nobody can answer that question till they have been there, and then they can only speak for themselves. John Mccain seems to have a lot better than some of the people I know who are permanently warped from it

Short form: question cannot be answered.

Torture or corporal punishment is not admissible and should be banned ,, They still use it in dictatorial regimes and third world countries ,,, It is not acceptable to turn our eyes from those who are subjected to torture and corporal punishment, it is the means to prove human evilness ...And if we dont stop them we contribute to promoting evilness as well instead of contributing to promote the good human values world wide ..

It all comes down to nature vs. nurture. At what point does our previous experiences dominate who we naturally are? Personally I think our experiences model us later in life - so to answer your question, people who are beat psychologically and physically will be more prone to striking back or lashing out.

I would definitely re-evaluate my life, and the pros-and-cons of my life as a terrorist......

Or, I would say that was a rewarding experience in SERE school, courtesy of your tax dollars, puts some hair on your balls and gives you something to dream about.... if we treated alqaeda detainees the way we treat soldiers, marines, airmen and sailors as trainees in SERE school, intelligence would be alot more forthcoming. But if we treated them like recruits in SERE school then thats a warcrime, give me a break

Methinks you either do not have children or don't pay much attention to them...

Corporal punishment is not torture...

If I was tortured, I probably wouldn't go asking for more...
