It seems some conservatives in the U.S. think so, and deride liberals for their criticisms. I have seen it said, as well, that the criticism is some sort of new trend. I dispute that.

What if I said the war in Iraq was, "the most unjust war ever waged by a stronger against a weaker nation"... can I say that without being derided?

Those were the words of President Grant, looking back at the Mexican-American War. Another war pushed forward under false pretenses. Another sovereign nation attacked for no reason beyond not doing what the U.S. wanted.

Was Grant being unpatriotic? I don't think so. He was a great patriot and a great military leader. He was also willing to call out injustice by its name. We, like Grant, are entitled to do the same without having our patriotism assailed.

I’m a Good Old Rebel

Oh, I'm a good old Rebel
Now that's just what I am.
For this Yankee nation
I do not give a damn.
I'm glad I fought agin her,
I only wish we'd won.
I ain't asked any pardon
For anything I've done.

I hates the Constitution
This great Republic too.
I hates the Freedmen's Bureau
In uniforms of blue.
I hates the nasty eagle
With all his brag and fuss.
But the lyin', thievin' Yankees
I hates' em wuss and wuss.

I hates the Yankee nation
And everything they do.
I hates the Declaration
Of Independence too.
I hates the glorious Union --
'Tis dripping with our blood --
I hates their striped banner,
And I fit it all I could.

I rode with Robert E. Lee,
For three years, thereabouts.
Got wounded in four places
And starved at Point Lookout.
I caughts the rheumatism
A-camping in the snow.
But I killed a chance of Yankees
And I'd like to kill some mo'.

Three hundred thousand Yankees
Lie still in Southern dust
We got three hundred thousan

I am American and my partner is English. My boyfriend and I have been together for three years, living together for one. We currently live in London where I am staying and working on a 4 year work permit. My boyfriend works in IT and has a master's degree. We understand that the US does not allow defacto immigration. Is marriage the only way for my boyfriend to get a visa to live in the USA with me? Also, if we did get married in the UK, how long would we need to wait before moving to the US and would my boyfriend have free right to work when we arrived?

The story that came out a few weeks ago about Princeton researchers hacking Diebold's voting machine (even using a common key to someone's freezer or whatever it was to get in) and changing the results is frightening. When you look at instances from which exit polls didn't even come close to matching actual results, it's all been since Y2K when the irregularities began. In 2004, there were more irregularities in Ohio than any other state.

Here's an article for those who know nothing about this:
http://www.usatoday.com/tech/columnist/andrewkantor/2006-09-29-diebold_x.htm

The thing is: I'm a Libertarian-wing Republican and I've supported the Republicans simply because they're "not as bad" as the socialists who fight against the 2nd amendment and favor entitlement programs. Bush hasn't exactly pleased me.

Now a handful of electronic voting machine manufacturers (or anyone with access to them) can control the results of an election. What can be done to do to save this country?
