I do understand that at this present moment everyone is talking of the folly of having gone to war in Iraq and rightly so but this is all in hindsight. At the time the US invaded Iraq, quite a number of people got caught up in the emotions of the September 11 atrocities thought it was the right thing to do and gave the war their support. It is hard to make a call now but it is clear that the war was botched starting with the failure to prevent a security vaccuum after the removal of Saddam's government. The Iraqi army (whose experience in this situatipon would have been vital) was disbanded and there was massive looting on the streets...the US army/coalition wanted to be seen as popular liberators and would not do enough to stop the lawlessness. Since then the anarchy has never stopped but has grown with the mushrooming of all kinds of hardcore, battle hardened insurgents, fighting in their own backyard and forcing the coalition to fight on their terms...of course this has resulted in massive casualties. With hindsight i will say the invasion of Afghanistan to remove the Taliban was legitimate and strategically sound. The US could on the other hand have monitored the situation in Iraq to see if it would become the new base of Al-Qaeda and the Taliban using sound intelligence and then could have solicited wider global support to form a coalition like in the first Gulf War to invade. An alternative would have been to continue with airstrikes or the use of special forces raids to do a sort of limited "containment". I dont think Saddam in any case would have entertained any Al-Qaeda infiltration into Iraq knowing the grounds it would give the US for an invastion and the risk it would pose to him. But sadly the mistakes have already been made and few at the beginning could fore-see this outcome

The trouble is, if the mighty usa leave iraq, they will only go somewhere else.As for continueing there role, well i would like to know what that role is,is it to give the people of iraq freedom? No and that has been proven, for things are far worse now that ever before. And with this war against terrorism, who really are the terrorist?Iraq was aconsider to be a friend of the west, until that was the west (usa)decided not to play nice anymore.i feel that the us should leave everywhere and concentrate on the massive problems within its own borders

The United States Historically is a very young country and with all youngsters we should be tolerant of their actions but in the case of the US these kiddies have the biggest stick in the playground and people die as of a result of their actions all over the world. Only by teaching them as a whole through the UN can older and wiser people and countries educate the US in its conduct around the world, hopefully the promised oil reserves they have locked in shale can be unlocked then they might go home without having to mess with anyone on the school bus. Remember the US saved the world once and removed a very dangerous regime in 1945 but giving 1 apple to the teacher does not allow you to beat on everyone all the time whenever you want . Terrorism exists because of the bullies not in spite of them, hearts and minds wins more conflicts than bullets Americas support for Israel has killed many more people the terrorists ever had. It is sad to point out that the US is potentially far more dangerous than Hitler ever was, throwing bullets at problems does not solve them in the long term people need to talk but if they don't understand the problem they should keep out of it , we don't allow children to dictate to adults even if they have big sticks, we send them to the naughty corner. Nobody asked the US to become the worlds policemen and women they should go home and keep quiet we may all might live a bit longer.

I had the same question...got no real answer, its always a yes and a no and a maybe or a yes but, no but...

in my own opinion, the US is not doing the right thing, they are playing the world police and forget that UN exist.

As UN is against the US going to Iraq, US should be out of Iraq immediate and let the UN takes the lead in Iraq, not the US!!!

Terrorism could be handled in a different way. When we went to Iraq, it was 2003. Just in time for W to start his campaign for re-election in 2004. It was a sneaky, underhanded trick to give the entire country a snow-job.

Now we are there, we should finish what we started. My opinion is to fix what we broke then get the heck out of there.

Iraq is very "Secular" it is the only place in the mid-east that the U.S. can get a foot hold. There are lots of bad guys over there, right now U.S. troops have them scattered, so there is no focal point to train terrorists, in short "We got the bad guys on the run", let's keep it that way ! More trouble is headed for America "BIG TIME" ! I think that we should be in position when (not if) that happens, so that we can open up Pandora's box of "Whoop AZZ" ! Then we''ll see just who's "TERRIFIED" !

The US/UK should never have gone there in the first place. The so-called "War against Terrorism" is a myth - there ain't no such thing. It's all a conspiracy to stimulate the spiralling growth of US military funding and weapons development to ensure US domination of global energy resources.

The way I see it, the worst thing we could do is leave Iraq before they are ready to defend themselves. The terrorists have been killing innocent people all over the world for years and its only going to get worse unless we have the will to stop it.

Iraq and the War of Terorism are not related.
The US is not doing bthe right thing.
They should dispose of the secret services. The CIA/MI6/Mossad/ISI were between them responsible for 9/11,7/7,Madrid train bombing, Bali bombimg.Mumbai train bombing.Lockerbie air disaster, and many others - all blamed on Arabs or Muslims in order to keep people terrorised and prepared to give away their freedom in exchnage for ill-perceived security.

Jutsanotherengine sums it up perfectly: This is why the Americans are making such a **** up in whatever they do. They think they are so superior to all others before them. From what i saw of the US Military in Iraq, God Help Them is all i can say. "THEY GONNA KICK SOME ***" Too many John Wayne films.
