I mean, how many times can a person call into their boss for being sick and count as being absent before the boss of the employer can fire the worker?

3 to 6 times other than vacation, holiday and sick days

you get your personal time and vacation once you have used all your paid time off you would be calling out in an excessive amount and can be termed for poor job performance. the company handbook will tell you how many unscheduled days off you are allowed. for instance my company gives you 3 days personal time but allows 6 unscheduled days off.
