a basic human right like government-provided healthcare?

A poster on another question thinks we Brits are "oppressed" because we have to pay a TV license and don't live in America. Well we have all the "freedoms" you have, freedom of speech etc (how do you think the Muslim fanatics get away with it otherwise?), multiculturalism - and you Yanks pay tax too!. Plus we don't have to PAY to see the doctor when we are sick (seems barbaric to me that anyone should have to do that, like being treated when you are sick is some sort of luxury).

Is this just more American ignorance about the rest of the world that they still seem to think we are all medieval serfs in Europe?

Not Israel-Iran-or Syria!!!

The credibility of the United State as a Democratic Super Power went into the toilet as soon as Bush started speaking after he came back from vacation = "Israel won!"

The people of Lebanon lost this war!!! too much to say or list!!!

The people of the United State lost this war because our goverment acted like children

The people of the United State will eventually have to pay to rebuild Lebanon---not Iran, Syria or Israel!

We lost it big time!

Both seem pretty damn batty. One in that fundamentalist propaganda way and the other in a iron fist secrecy kind of way, but who is crazier? And who will ultimately lead to their country's demise?

What’s that you say? I shouldn’t use the word "retarded"? I’m sorry, but you’re infringing on my First Amendment right to free speech. If we are allowed to say, write or do anything we want under the First Amendment, why do we have slander and libel laws? Is it because these laws are only intended to protect liberal beliefs from those who seek to expose them for the inanities they are? No, these laws were put into place to prevent people from abusing their rights.

Also, why does the First Amendment apply to flag burning, but not to public prayer? Is it because religious speech inspires hatred? And flag burning inspires what? Love, peace and grooviness?

I love Yahoo! more than most people. However, I am also a true American patriot, which means I value freedom of the press (among many other freedoms.)

I am VERY disturbed after reading the stories (links below) about Yahoo! complicity and assistance in jailing dissident journalists in China. I have already written to Yahoo! and expressed that I will boycott them if this continues. Will you join me?

Serious answers only, please. I hope my fellow Americans (and freedom-lovers world-wide) will agree.

They had poor intelligence on Hezbollah, IDF troops were not sufficently trained or equipped. They expected an easy war of a few days, that many Lebanese would welcome Israel's bombings and be glad if Israel got rid of Hezbollah. Israel's government did not evacuate elderly and poor citizens in northern Israel; they had to stay in harms way for one month! The result of the war: they lost 155 citizens, united their enemy.

Can anybody think of some other ways Israel is becoming like the US in it policies and actions? I know there are other parallels. No slurs, please, just ideas.

Seriously, I think it'd be a blast! Driving down an old farm road, drunk and high on cocaine with a shotgun shooting anything that doesn't move too fast. Think about the fun you could have with the secret service.... Ahhh the possibilities.

I just finished reading the book "Nam". I couldn't put it down. My father-in-law fought, and I have heard some stories here and there, but very very little from him. The only stories he has told me were after he was back in the states, maybe after getting his Purple Heart, I'm not sure. Anyway, in your opinion is this something I can ask him questions about, or is just too much? I am very interested in Nam, and some time would like to try and find some of his buddies, but again, I don't know if that would be too much for him. What do you guys think, someone who has been in his shoes and can tell me honestly. The last thing I want to do is hurt him. Thanks!

here inside USA than they had as citizens in many of the nations from which they came and ,furthermore, then attack the USA and Americans as racist, etc. for opposing their illegal entry instead of criticizing conditions of or trying to improve conditions in the places they originally came from (while either inside the US or in their home country)? Just wondering why protests are directed towards a nation that gives you more as an illegal immigrant instead of towards the nation that treated you so poorly as a citizen that economic, social, political factors forced you to emigrate from it?

He's a war hungry president and I think his intentions are to send U.S. troops to Israel before he gets out of office. I heard a press conference where he was addressing the issue live on TV. If we go over there folks, it's nothing like Iraq it's worse. Read a article where over 150 rocket missiles where launched in one day. Tell me if it's not as dangerous as Iraq and about that death toll in Iraq. That would be easily totaled up very quickly if we were to go to Israel and support the war over there.

Here is one (among many other similar to this) response I received this morning from conservatives:

"I think homosexuality is immoral and wrong. it spreads disease. Becuase of that you say I "HATE" I do not hate. I have an opinion of something.God is allowed to hate all he wants. it's his world,
and he plainly stated that he hates homosexuality.
And he plainly punished people for homosexuality.
and he did not say he wouldn't punish them again.
He did say he would forgive them if they came to know christ"

Hmm..I thought God was loving and accepting of all his/her creatures?
