They had poor intelligence on Hezbollah, IDF troops were not sufficently trained or equipped. They expected an easy war of a few days, that many Lebanese would welcome Israel's bombings and be glad if Israel got rid of Hezbollah. Israel's government did not evacuate elderly and poor citizens in northern Israel; they had to stay in harms way for one month! The result of the war: they lost 155 citizens, united their enemy.
Can anybody think of some other ways Israel is becoming like the US in it policies and actions? I know there are other parallels. No slurs, please, just ideas.

Jbbrant - no, it's an open minded question, as best as I can do. I'm not seeking agreement, just ideas on either side. It's nice if the balance shifts toward my preconceptions sometimes, but not necessary and not what I want. Check the Seymour. Hersch's new article:

Yes.
Acting on bad intelligence.
Bad treatment of detainees.
Badly equipped troops.
Placing arrogance over diplomacy and human decency.
(not all Americans do that).

First of all your question is flawed, if you took a poll of all natural-born Lebanese citizens about half of them will willingly give their lives to destroy Israel and the U.S.
To answer your question in some ways Israel is not becoming like the Americans. In the U.S. if we start a war with someone we will stop the war when we think it is time to stop. Not when other countries and the UN want us too. Also most of the time the US leaders let the military leaders call the shots at war. While Israel cares to much about what the world thinks. On top of that the U.S. does not have 20 something countries that border it and all call for their destruction.

No, you might say it is getting to be more like the United States, but certainly not America.
You see, America is not a country but a continent with 34 nations in it, there is no such a thing as ‘American’ nationality, America is not a nation America is a continent with many nations in it. The US never named itself the name of the United States is a designation it comes from the end of the Declaration of Independence, "WE, therefore, the Representatives of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, in GENERAL CONGRESS, Assembled...". The preamble to the U.S. Constitution reiterated the phrase: "We the People of the United States..." (The authors of these two documents probably used the phrase "united states" in place of a list of colonies/states because they remained uncertain at the time of drafting which colonies/states would sign off on the sentiments therein.) The geographic term "America" specifies the states' home on the American continent.
It is therefor incorrect to refer to US citizens as Americans with the intent of denoting citizenship, or the United States as America with the intent of denoting a nation. Americans have a term for US citizens, we are called United Statesians by the rest of Americans, to say American with the intent of denoting citizenship or America when we mean the United States reflects poorly on our attitude towards the 70% of Americans that are not United Statesians.

Israel planned this war for the past six years, they are a proxy for the USA, just as the Hezbollah are for Iran and Syria

I dont think so dude, Israel did what they could and take in account that the international community did not support them. About their troops not being well trained, all I have to say is: Bunch of crap.
They have the best military in the middle east. You can even aggure that their soldiers are more well equipped than US soldiers.

Good Heavens, I sure hope Israel is becoming more like the US. I can think of one very good parallel, and that is they have the freedom to express their opinion. I believe they have their military to thank for that freedom, much like we do. They aren't perfect, another parallel, but they tend to protect people's right to a peaceful existance. I am sure I could go on and on naming parallels, but I don't believe this is an open minded question, but thanks to our government and it's policies, you are more than welcome to make uneducated stabs at our inadequacies without fear of consequence. Try doing that in some of those "other" countries.

The other way around. America is becoming more like Israel. The security up the kazoo, airport crowding, and living in fear of terrorism.
