I love Yahoo! more than most people. However, I am also a true American patriot, which means I value freedom of the press (among many other freedoms.)

I am VERY disturbed after reading the stories (links below) about Yahoo! complicity and assistance in jailing dissident journalists in China. I have already written to Yahoo! and expressed that I will boycott them if this continues. Will you join me?

Serious answers only, please. I hope my fellow Americans (and freedom-lovers world-wide) will agree.

I had to respond to these lame answers:

Leogirl0804 - Of course I understand if a business wants to work in a country, they must abide by their rules, but the business isn't powerless, nor are we as consumers. Did you even read one of the links?

Aunt Susan - this is utterly stupid. Not supporting Yahoo! is different than denying them a right.

rgobio & stiff_greygo... - spoken like true children of privilege. It's kind of hard for China to "take care of their own problems" when Yahoo! is helping them jail non-violent journalists.

Grillon - I agree about not judging to a degree - but I doubt you "don't judge" countries that support terrorism.

What the hell? Am I the only one who cares about human rights here? You're all saying it's Yahoo's freedom of choice. 1. a corporation isn't a person. 2. You can have an influence in preventing non-violent people from going to jail? If you don't care, you're pathetic!

Lets be honest, it's bullshit what yahoo is doing but that's not going to change my use of their service.

If Yahoo and google want to do business in a country such as China, they need to abide by that countries rules. I don't agree with their form of Government, but they have the right to have it.
We support their form of government every day when we purchase all the "made in China" items. So how is yahoo any different?

No.

I think the Chinese and others should start taking care of their own problems.
I do not believe that Yahoo is openly or covertly supporting the Chinese governement. If they were, I still would not boycott it because it falls under freedom or speech, freedom of choice, etc.... The same things you hold dear. It cannot only be freedom of speech when you agree with it.

The Chinese government has the right to make their own laws. If the people don't like it, it is up to THEM (not you or I) to force that change on the government.

And are you seriously using "The Inquirer" as a link? LOL.

Every country has their own right. America shouldn't constantly judge others when it's own economy is starting to sputter.

NO! "America" means that one is able to form your own opinions, and speak freely. Denying Yahoo that right is: Un-American.
