Here is one (among many other similar to this) response I received this morning from conservatives:

"I think homosexuality is immoral and wrong. it spreads disease. Becuase of that you say I "HATE" I do not hate. I have an opinion of something.God is allowed to hate all he wants. it's his world,
and he plainly stated that he hates homosexuality.
And he plainly punished people for homosexuality.
and he did not say he wouldn't punish them again.
He did say he would forgive them if they came to know christ"

Hmm..I thought God was loving and accepting of all his/her creatures?

Because they think that G-d sent them to make another crusade!

They think they are sooo holy and worthy that they have the right to judge others...
Well to them I say: WAKE UP! G-d doesn't need you to judge others...worry about yourselves.

We are here to be EQUALS no matter what. No one is above anyone. Was it not Jesus who didn't let people stone Mary Magdalene and did he not say that he would NOT JUDGE her?

Well, people should take his example and do the same.
How funny that not even their Jewish born savior can save them from their intolerance!

I challenge them to be loving and look the other way. I challenge them to follow the example Jesus set for them and actually do it rather than putting themselves on an altar and claim morality and purity...hypocrites (well some of them at least)

It all depends upon what parts of the Bible you want to focus on. In some parts, God is a judgmental rightious God, who keeps a book of life, where all sins are catelogued, and only the rightious have a path to glory. In other parts, God is a foregiving God, but only if you are a Christian (baptized). A God fearing and loving, caring muslim, hindi, or anything else, has no chance.

Then, again, most "conservative christians" who believe that the Bible contains the "words" of God (not just the holy inspiration, written by men), also believe that the words are those contained in the King James Version of the Bible, which does not even purport to be an accurate translation of the original text (sure is nice poetry tho).

It is, however, rather disconcerting to think that people use GOD as an excuse to hate a group of people

It is, however, rather sad that people use GOD as an excuse for the prejudices and unequal treatment of others

But, it is also possible that they are right. We will know when we get up to the pearly gates. If the view that we should "love our neighbors as ourselves" is misguided, then I will burn in hell along with others who are just trying to do the best we can to follow our God and our conscience.

Tolerance and acceptance are 2 different things.

I will not preach towards a homosexual about God, because I tolerate their choice to not follow His ways.

I will not refuse to let a gay person know, if they ask, how I feel about their choice and what is wrong with it, because I do not accept the choice they have made.

Toleration is leaving them alone, acceptance is not helping when they seek help.

Too many people have taken the directive to spread the gospel as a directive to clean up the world. These people are misguided fools living for a worthless cause. Jesus did not say, "Go straighten out the messes of the world".

So far none have asked and so far I haven't told any. I think that is tolerance.

Of course I am not religious. The religious seek to please God with their own efforts, which is what causes most of the world's problems.

As for your statement about God. God loves all creatures with impersonal love. This type of love allows him to take care of the whole world based on His attributes, not those that belong to the world.
He is accepting only of those who choose Him. This acceptance is what we would call personal love, or love that depends on the person being loved. It's based on our attitude toward Christ.

Ignore the idiots who say you have to be good to be loved by God. This is wrong info. You have to have a positive attitude towards Christ and his gospel, it is not based on being good or bad. That would be against God's policy toward mankind, which is grace. Grace is giving what is not deserved to mankind, in other words a free ticket to heaven.

Tolerance for Gays doesn't outrage religious conservatives. I am a religious conservative and I believe that most of us want to propect marriage as a union of man and woman and do not have outrage toward tolerance for them. I do admit however that a few extremist ones do have a hateful disposition. I don't appreciate your stereotype. What would you say if I asked why secular liberals hate traditional American values?

Why does Christian intolerance outrage gays? EVERYONE has a right to their opinion. If one group or person does not agree with a certain lifestyle and voices that opinion... that is their RIGHT. Just as it is your right to go prancing through the dewberry fields with your gay lover. :)

As for God loving and accepting his/her creatures... many would say that since homosexuality is unnatural (seriously, you cannot reproduce which is the BIOLOGICAL purpose of sex) those who are homosexual cannot be Gods creatures. (Not me, although the unnatural thing was me, I think God loves everyone the same).

OK, First of all why did you post this question in Law and Ethics?

Next, who cares what that person thinks? I mean is that so earth shattering that people think differently then you about Gay's? People are in-titled to their opinions even if you don't like them. You may want to take a tolerance lesson yourself punkin!!

Not sure what your point is. According to the Bible, homosexual activity is a sin, an abomination even. So, like all the other sins, sinful activity is considered bad. You know, the whole, "Go and sin no more" thing.

However, as Christians, we are taught to love. So, like with other sins, we understand that we are all sinners, but we do not have to love the sin, just the sinner.

This means that we accept homosexuals as our brothers and sisters. We understand that they, like us, have their own sins to reckon with in front of God. And we acknowledge that to look at the mote in their eye blinds us to the lumber in our own.

But this does not mean that we should celebrate homosexuality, because we really don't celebrate what we consider sins.

I have homosexual friends. I don't agree with their lifestyle, but that's between them and God - I don't have the wherewithal to cast that first stone.

Christians who preach intolerance of homosexuals have to use the same parts of the Old Testament that also condone slavery...But when you ask them if the Bible is pro-slavery, they say, "Oh, no, Jesus came along and changed all that"....Well, Jesus also preached a message of peace and tolerance. Never once did he bash homosexuals. Never once did he lobby to have laws passed that would deny rights to gays.

These so-called "Christians" need to not only ask themselves "WWJD?", but to actually go back and take a lot at what Jesus ACTUALLY DID. And then compare his philosophy and actions to their own....

Simple hatred is one motivation - a blind observance of selected verses from the Bible, while ignoring the ones that don't fit the mind set of hate.

But really, the political motivation is that the Republican party has maintained a loyal base for decades by having some kind of boogy man to fight. Communists, blacks, feminists - all bad for the country, or getting out of their proper place. Now it's gays, because we are an easy target. However, the pendulum is already swinging to another sector - immigrants. This will be the new uniting 'cause' for Republicans.

Republicans uniquely enjoy a 'holier than though' attitude - they know better how to run your life than you do. The leaders of the party though just know this approach wins elections - rather than hating people, they manoever them in order to win votes and keep power. Power = Money. That's the root cause.

God is loving but like a father also punishes. Man and women were created to be partners with each other our body parts are also created to fit together. Tolerance does not outrage conservatives however we do not want to be so open minded about such issues that we put ourselves and our children at risk of disobeying god's laws. Just as it annoys liberals that conservatives are outraged with such tolerance, many conservatives are outraged at the liberals focing this gibberish down our throats!

Well, you failed to actually read the post. Forgiveness is an act of love and acceptance. However, forgiveness is earned through contrition. God hates evil.

When you reject evil, you earn God's love. It is your responsibility to earn God's love. Abandon sin, and earn his love. Unfortunatly, we are all sinners and unworthy of his love.
