I was looking at this rate and it said they work on gas and diesel engines, aircraft, body work, and they do welding too. Does anybody know about this rating??

And what careers would it help me on once i'm out of the Navy?

That is the website. But i'm still not convinced that it will help me be a vehicle mechanic and a welder.

Do you think it will help me for a career as a mechanic and a welder?

If you want to be a welder when you get out, then look at the HT (Hulltech) rating, that's pretty much all they do. You can also get dive qualed and become an underwater welder, those guys make really good money working on pipelines (though I've heard their life expectancy tends to be short). If you want to be a mechanic, then look EN (Engineman), they work on the big diesel engines on ships, boats, and trucks. Finally, for something that combine the two, look at some of the Seabee ratings, like UT (Utilitiesman), BU (Builder), and SW (Steelworker).

AS's work on Aviation Support equipment and get basic instruction on vehicle maintenance. They work on equipment like tow tractors and power carts. If you are more interested in working on vehicles a SEABEE rate such as EO would probbly work out better. They work on heavy machinery both as operators and mechanics.
