Follow up question to a fairly common response I see on the "assimilation" issue in regards to the current immigration debate. Whereas, immigrants from previous times coming to the US seemed, in many cases, more likely and more willing to want to join mainstream American culture, I see defenders of today's immigrants that try to maintain as much as their traditional "heritage" and customs as possible while ignoring the larger American culture/society insist they do so because American culture is "morally bankrupt;" drugs, violence, gangs, sex, family breakdown are all issues that are pointed to as signs of immorality and decay of American culture that immigrants are said to find so "foreign" and offensive to their traditional ways of living. Any thoughts on this one way or the other?

No guns permitted. Cheney is younger, but has a bum ticker. Heston is older, but leaner and has the reach.

This was the praise given to George Bush in one of the answers in the politics section. I've heard this a lot. Doesnt it remind you of the episode in simpsons where they decide to have a "bear patrol" after one bear attack, then the following dialogue occurs:

Homer (looks around): Not a bear in sight! the bear patrol must be working perfectly!

Lisa (picks up a rock): Dad by your logic I could claim that this rock keeps tigers away.

Homer: Lisa, I want to buy your rock! (then offers money to lisa).

Along with Slick Willie? Every freely admits and knows that Bill allowed Bin Laden to come to power, attack us in 93, 96, 98 and how many other times? He did nothing so can we not say that he is liable for the deaths after his term in office? Kind of like his buddy Marc Rich who is now back in trouble with the law after Slick Willie pardoned him. I think its about time the Clintons are held and convicted for all their crimes against humanity, dont you?

Is it possible to completely drop your fathers name from your passport and birth certificate? how would an attorney go about helping you with something like this? also is divorcing one parent possible? if not, what happens if you're a bastard, what do they put on their passports and birth certificates?

I live in Kentucky and I was wondering if there was a way to view public records in California, without me having to actually to drive/fly there. By public records I mean, I was trying to find out about my half-brother who lives out there and I dont know much about him. My dad lost almost all contact with him and his mother after they left from here and I was trying to find them.

This is a serious question, and I have no one to talk to, so cut the crap and just give me the facts.

I currently live in India, and hold an Indian passport. I would like to change my entire name. I am 21, and have my mother's full consent. Here are my questions. (keep in mind that when answering answer as you would an idiot, because I can't even pay the electric bill in this country.)

-where should I go to get this legally done? (I reside in Pune, Maharashtra.) will these people speak english? what exactly will they ask me to do?
-what expenses will be needed? (please round it up to the TOTAL cost, like typing up documents in whatever language they speak or whatever, excluding cab fare of course.)
-assuming I get this name change, truthfully, how long will it take to transefer said name to passport? (I recently renewed my passport and fought tooth and nail to get it back!)
