Civilizations go up and down in waves and fits and spurts, like sand dunes that form, wash away, blow away and reform again and again. But, unlike sand dunes, we humans keep reaching for greater comprehension, for greater health and goodness. That is where we humans are headed. This or that particular civilization may not make it there. But, Humanity will . . . eventually. You have my word on that.

human civilization is going in the same direction it has always been going to - that is a more advanced technology based culture, a world village, a better exchange of ideas and cultural homogeneity. that is the long term process.
in the short run there are fluctuations in these trends.

This is a good question that needs more attention.

I have tried to answer but there is simply too much to say.

I think we simply need to realise the problems & decide how we as individuals can promote change for the good of it

Longer lifespans(lots of old people everywhere),
the (American) Empire surrounded by and walled off from barbarians(mostly Muslims),
and perhaps a new religion will rise (money-worship ??)
