What’s that you say? I shouldn’t use the word "retarded"? I’m sorry, but you’re infringing on my First Amendment right to free speech. If we are allowed to say, write or do anything we want under the First Amendment, why do we have slander and libel laws? Is it because these laws are only intended to protect liberal beliefs from those who seek to expose them for the inanities they are? No, these laws were put into place to prevent people from abusing their rights.

Also, why does the First Amendment apply to flag burning, but not to public prayer? Is it because religious speech inspires hatred? And flag burning inspires what? Love, peace and grooviness?

Man alive!

"Retarded Liberals?

The slander and libel laws exist because your rights end were mine begin. Although you have the right to express yourself you do not have the right to yell 'FIRE!' in a crowded theater, if expressing yourself has the potential to become a liability to me you have infringed on my rights, and as you remember, your rights end were mine begin.

"Also, why does the First Amendment apply to flag burning, but not to public prayer? "
The first amendment applies to public prayer, nobody ever said otherwise, read a little.
What you can't do is public prayer on public property, but then again you can't burn flags on public property either.

"Is it because religious speech inspires hatred? "
No, it's because we have a strict separation of church and state. That means all religions are banned from public property.

"And flag burning inspires what?"
Mostly feelings of anger, and that is exactly what it is intended to do. Flag burning is in large part allowed because it is a way for you to express yourself and upset others, much in the same way that you have the right to post this question with the express intention of offending those that differ in views from you, without endangering their lives.

The issues of flag burning and public prayer come under two different areas of First Amendment law: flag burning is protected under the right to free self expression, where public prayer may not be supported by government because of the establishment clause. ("Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof ....")

No one has ever attempted to ban or forbid public prayer -- you can sit in your chair at public school and pray all you want -- but if your behavior becomes disruptive, the public school's failure to respond to that disruption would constitute bias in favor of your religion, and hence, would constitute support for a particular religion using federal funds.

As for flag burning, why is this even an issue? There were, what, three documented cases last year?

How can you be so wrong on so many points first off Libel laws protect people from personal attacks conservatives or liberals as a group they are not a person so go ahead and attack them. Once again on public prayer, for the idiot right out there, you can pray anywhere you want but it cannot be supported by the government. Why is that so hard for fundamentalists to understand.

You can call liberals retarded, and we can call you a bathering fool. It goes both ways. But the First Amendment does not let you say absolutely anything. A popular example - you can't shout "Fire!" in a crowded movie theater. Where free speech bumps up against public safety, safety usually wins. Also, just because you can say what you want, doesn't mean I can't sue you if you said false things about me and it cost me money - so you'd get in trouble if you falsely blamed me for some criminal act that then cost me my job.

As for flag burning, I think that should be allowed, but the conservatives in congress disagree. And if you want to pray in public, you go right ahead! No one will stop you. You can be a member of any church you want, unlike in many countries around the world. I support your right to worship as you see fit, just don't make me pray, as I do not worship your god.

Hey, dipsh*t you can say whatever your little heart desires but that doesn't make it "right." What people were trying to tell you was your choice of comparing two groups was rather cruel and crude. Again it is just another person's opinion which doesn't make it right or wrong but we all have the right to say it. So go for it you little dudette show us what a wit you can be. Something tells me this is going to take a while and you will resort to the same tired and boring questions you always come up with. You may well be the cure for insomnia the world has been waiting for. Good night Irene Z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

That is all you people see, liberal or conservative, how ignorant and narrow minded.

There are many people posting who are quite sure they have the answer, and that the opposing side is absolutely wrong, but based on nothing.
All of these political postings sound the same, a bunch of completely personal views based on personal experience or personal taste, in other words a bunch of garbage.

I think liberals are just as bad as conservatives. And yes, your use of the word "retarded" is ridiculous. That is an adjective people use when they lack intelligence and tact. Preach on, demolition man.
