hi all, this morning in a card school way out in the sticks i beat the hosts hand for the pot. as he was a farmer and of course short for the full amount he threw in the keys for his 4x4. i laughed it was a piece of crap. the only other thing he had of equal value was a 3 yo mare with papers. i accepted. he delivered this afternoon and my missus (a horse lover, grew up with them) is about to come home from a double shift and find a 14 hand horse in our backyard: i have the money for a hiring a paddock, but not the inclination. so my question is would it be more equitable to keep a horse well fed and looked after in a 15x6 foot back yard or to sell it off to a knackers yard.? i do love horses but i live in a council estate. and is horse flesh rendered for glue environmently friendly and more importantly cost effective? please help.

My 1yr old (Doyle) attacked our new baby rabbit like a vicous rabid dog!!! I have 3 ideas why.

1.He is jelous

2.His former partner died 4 months ago and he doesnt want to sociolize with any rabbits due to his depression

3.He only wants to be with his litter mate and cares for no other but her. (his partner is a female guinea pig and they are in love! i kno its crazy but 100% true!)

Anyways he has never been so sour he has always been a sweetheart and personally my fav. pet so i am shocked of his new reactions, besides i bought this bunny to be his new rabbit pal so why try to tear him apart???!! I will know what to do as soon as i find out the reasons for this behavior. Now i have my other Guinea mother raising this baby rabbit with her own babys i guess more rabbit guinea pairs lol.

I have recently purchased a small raccoon as a household pet. Ironically, I also own a St. Bernard named Cleveland. He usually tries to attack most small, and medium sized animals and I was just curious to see if perhaps he would maybe feast on the carcass of my new small raccoon. Thanks so much for your help.

My question and thought was about people who will buy a horse now in the spring and keep it ride it whatever in the summer while its warm and eaiser to take care of.And as soon as it starts to turn cold they sell it cause they are too lazy to go out in the cold to care for it.I think people who do that think horse or other animals are DISPOSABLE. And they are not. If you get an animal you are supposed to be loyal to it and keep it as long as it lasts.Unless for whatever reason you cannot care for it or afford it.Then sell it or give it away and dont get another one.Dont use them and then when it is not convient for you just dispose of it.Animal are presious and I would be lost without mine.Maybe cause I was raised like that and I come from a long line of horse people! And for those who were offended by the first one obviously do think their animals are disposable and those who were not are probably loyal to those loyal to them and thats how it should be but the world isnt perfect is it?

ARe guinea pigs relatively enexpensive pets? I decided not to get a rabbit because I read that they have delicate health and I can't afford a lot of vet bills. Are gunea pigs cheaper by comparison? Are they hardier with less health problems. I know I will take them to the vet to get check ups. But are they less cost overall than a rabbit? How about compared to other pet rodents?

My childhood pet of 13 years died yesterday and I am taking it very hard. I'm an adult and I don't feel like I should be so upset over the loss of my pet, but I feel as though I 've lost a good friend that I'd known for 13 years. Does anyone have any advice in how to cope with this loss?

I already am sure of the answer to this ? I just wanna get other peoples ideas on it. Why do people buy horses in the summer just so they can sell them before winter and then turn around and do it all over again for the next yr.? I think the reason is cause they want them for the warm weather to enjoy but doesnt want to care for them in the cold! And I believe once you own an animal you should keep it for the rest of its life unless you cannot care for an animal. Not just have it for the good times. Who agrees? I have 2 horses ,1 on the way,2 dogs,2cats. And I help care for my parents 3 horses and their cat. I just believe that if you have an animal you should always be loyal to it. If you cant care for it in the bad weather dont get it in the first place.

I have a pair of male gerbils, right now they have two huge cages connected. I wanted to introduce a young (under 7 week) male to them, but I read that they might reject him. Is it possible to introduce a bonded pair (young) to my already bonded pair???

It can't be tall (Yeah! - I'm short.), but it still needs to keep up with my brother's quarter horses in the heat, working for a living (just like me). Also, it needs to be perfectly solid colored, because the sun here causes problems on horses with any white on them (appys, paints, ect..) Even sorrels get skin cancer and die young here.
I have had 15 BLMs(4 were really good horses, and 1 was even some-what sane after 12 long, careful years of training), 3 Arabians(all were what you call "spirited"-LOL, and all had genetically bad teeth, health & allergies), 2 "Quarter Ponies"(bad health & lameness), 1 Quarter/Welsh cross( terrible health, allergies & lameness), and 1 Icelandic (loved him, but he couldn't take the climate). Please - all those can be wonderful - but they were NOT for me.
Someone sugested a buckskin South American Corrillo (spelling?), but those are very rare. Is there any other breed already in the US that you know of that could be a good friend, and working partner?

I was distraught the other night when our British giant rabbit managed to get off her harness. We couldn't find her in the darkness of the garden. Later on a fox dragged her off screaming and ripped a chunk out of the back of the neck killing her.
I honestly thought they only killed to eat.

I've got a indoor rabbit. She's a Dutch Bunny and she's a good girl but lately she's been biting and snarling at my husband and I. She used to just up on the couch and watch TV with us and follow us around the house but now she runs away and tries to bite us. We haven't moved or hurt her in anyway. We've treated her the same way since day one. Any advice about what could cause these mood swings and what to do to cure them?
