My 1yr old (Doyle) attacked our new baby rabbit like a vicous rabid dog!!! I have 3 ideas why.

1.He is jelous

2.His former partner died 4 months ago and he doesnt want to sociolize with any rabbits due to his depression

3.He only wants to be with his litter mate and cares for no other but her. (his partner is a female guinea pig and they are in love! i kno its crazy but 100% true!)

Anyways he has never been so sour he has always been a sweetheart and personally my fav. pet so i am shocked of his new reactions, besides i bought this bunny to be his new rabbit pal so why try to tear him apart???!! I will know what to do as soon as i find out the reasons for this behavior. Now i have my other Guinea mother raising this baby rabbit with her own babys i guess more rabbit guinea pairs lol.

ok... only if rabbits are raised together from a very young age will they accept another rabbit... ofcourse there are acceptions to this rule, but very few. rabbits are very territorial, which is why rabbit hobbyiest, breeders, 4H kids, owners, keep one rabbit to a cage unless a doe has had a litter or they are breeding a pair. and then the doe is brought to the bucks cage, as does are very territorial and are more likely to hurt the buck if they feel their space is being violated... only in the wild do rabbits live peacefully in large groups and that isn't entirely peacefully either... it takes lots of fights to decide where a rabbit lies in the make up of the warren....

It's quite possibly a territorial problem. I've seen the same with my dwarf hamsters.

Something that worked quite well for me was to let them spend time alone in eachothers cage. This way they can scent it and also smell the others scent.

Put Doyle in the baby's cage for several hours, and the baby is Doyle's cage. Then switch. Do this again later and in a few days they should be used to eachother and get along just fine.

I have a rabbit as well, but only one. I was thinking of getting her a companion but my vet told me that it's only a 50/50 chance that they will get along, so I didn't bother. She has free run most of the time and plays nicely with my cats.

Rabbits are a bit tricky when it comes to other rabbits. Just keep trying to get them used to eachother.

Good luck.

Ummmm rabbits almost never will take to another rabbit, that they do not know, you should have known this before trying to put them together, if it is a male, and so is the baby, they will always fight , sometimes until death. DON"T TRY TO KEEP THEM TOGETHER!

Let me guess... the new bunny was a male?

Either he's jealous or he's just playing with the baby rabbit.
