The main reason llamas spit is to determine herd "pecking order" at feeding time. Like all herd animals llamas have a herd hierarchy and spitting is one of the ways they establish their place in the herd. Another time llamas spit is when a female llama is pregnant she will spit at a male to let him know that she is not interested in breeding. It's an "early pregnancy test" that breeders use to determine if the female is pregnant.

Rarely, llamas will spit as a means of defense or aggression. Llamas rarely spit at people unless they have been improperly trained or mishadled at some point in their lives. Occasionally a well trained llama will spit during during hoof trimming or vaccinations, but it's not common. Usually if they have been trained and handled properly they will not spit at people. Most of the time when a person gets spit on it's because they got in the way of two llamas having a spat at feeding time.

there's a asserting that an outstanding behaved llama won't spit at a nicely behaved character. This having been mentioned, you are going to be pushing too very nearly the llamas for their relief - and that they are letting you comprehend to returned off. Going head to head with a llama is threatening to them, and in the event that they don't seem to be waiting to run from you, they are going to spit. are not getting too close, act evenly and talk quietly - and you will not get spit on.

They spit for defense. When your around them don't make any sudden movements or they will spit ... walk very slow when your approaching them. They can spit up to 16 ft so be careful!

to get you to go away. it works well, doesn't it? here's a tip to keep in mind, if the llama has it's ears back and is grunting at you, don't try to kiss it.
