Is this supposed to be a question?? You are making assumptions over something you really do not know anything about. Notice the " I THINK" portion of your statement.
Some people buy horses in the spring and sell in the fall or sometimes the next year, whatever, for a profit. My aunt will buy a promising but unbroke 2- 3yr old, ride it 5 times a week and train it, and then sell it in the fall with some experience under it's belt with basic dressage and trail. They usually sell pretty quickly. Basically it is the same as sending your horse for professional training, only you do not own the horse beforehand. This method actually BENEFITS the horse intellectually, and increases their trainability because before, it would just sit in the pasture, doing nothing and probably not being worked. After it gets trained, it has some experience, making it more valuable to buyers, and thus the horse finds a better home.

Most people want the pleasure of riding a horse during the warm months but then when it is time for it to become cold they dont want the responsibility of caring for the horse. Believe it or not a horse is the hardest animal to care for. Also the feed bill in the winter months goes up like you know cause a horse keeps warm by eating and there is no green grass to help cut down on the hay bill. The people that buy horses for the warm months and then sell them before the cold months are not true horsemen. They are what i call "plastic hat" cowboys. They only want the responsibility when it is good for them and not for the love of the animal. Hope that helps explain this for you.

Horses are very expensive to keep. During the winter, a person has to feed & shelter a horse that probably was on pasture. The horse still needs a shoer to come out to at least trim it, it needs a blanket to protect form rain-rot (which it will just rip up anyway), and a horse needs a lot more space in the winter to keep mud down. The person usually quits riding during the winter months, so the owner feels like the horse is sitting, going to waste, and will never be ridden. To avoid all this, the owner sells the horse and just gets a new one come spring.

I totally agree 100% with you. I am a single mom w/ 4 horses, 4 dogs, barn cats, bird, lizard. I also have the ability to pay for all of these loved animals. Basically, u r correct....warm weather. people want to stay outside and if that's where the animal is then all the better. But when it gets cold people don't want their outdoor pets. It's all about up bringing and responsibility if you ask me. If you aren't gonna take care of the animal for the duration of its time, don't get it. My son has learned this.
Fine example: had a boyfriend-wasn't a horse person-wanted a horse. He got it, come winter time he didn't understand the whole feeding, stall during night, blankets, still gotta love it attitude even though it's cold outside. Needless to say, I ended up with the horse and he got booted out the door.

At the risk of sounding cynical - Why? Because we live in a disposable consumer society in which some members considers life (people, animals, even the planet) disposable, replaceable, and of little worth. For instance, those who buy pets on a whim (today I want to have a horse) or as status symbols or to match the furniture or decor. That being said, there are of course MANY individuals (such as many of those who have already answered) who are NOT like that. Ah, if only we lived in an ideal world... All you can do is thank God you are one of the latter, not the former. And know that the 4-legged members of your family are blessed in who they have as caretakers.

I don't really know the answer to your question, but I want to put my two cents in.
Too me, my animals are family. All my animals are my friends and my kids. I could never sell an animal because I didn't feel like feeding it or for profit.
I have a cow that is now 2 years old. It was given to us because it's mother wouldn't feed her. She is my pet cow. Everybody thought I was kidding. They can't believe I haven't butchered her. People have even offered me hundreds of dollars for her.
There is no way in this world that she is being butchered by anyone. She is my pet. I bottle fed her since she was a few days old.
My pets are like family, some people's pets are just animals to them. They buy, sell, butcher them etc. without a problem.
Would I give away or sell my son or daughter, NEVER. That's the way that I think of animals. My kids are grown and now all of my animals are my kids. Nothing could make me sell them unless I could no longer care for them or didn't have the money to care for them.
I joke around to people right now, that I could quit working if I didn't have to feed all my animals. But, I'd rather work than get rid of my animals.

This I don't understand. Although I agree(above, first answer) that people can sell their animals whenever they'd like, this kind of situation bothers me. If you can't care for an animal why would you get it? And if you don't care..? Obviously they don't care if they shuffle around with whatever horse. What I really don't understand-- horses aren't like cat or dogs. You can lease a horse from someone for the summer, or partially lease it. Why would you go through the trouble of buying one, just to sell it and then again?
:) AND WHEN THERE ARE PEOPLE LIKE MEEEEE who would die to have a horse. Maybe they do it to tease us? D:
Well, we can't fix stupid...

My 3 boys will be with me till there end, I would never sell them and always do my best to make sure there 110% happy and safe!
Yep I am pretty much married to them, but I wouldnt have it any other way!!
I also have a dog 2 cats and a ferret and again they will be with me forever I could never let them go there part of the family (and most of the time part of the furniture!!)
So yer I most definanatly agree with you!
