My cats are very clean and to get over it if you are willing see if you have a friend that has a good cat and have them put it in a crate and slowly get used to it being around then move closer and then once you are used to the idea of it being there have them take it out and hold it and slowly try to touch don't jerk away or it could frighten the cat or even better start with a small animal like a hampster or something like that or seek therapy but it isn't uncommon to be fearful of animals but they aren't dirty.

Just so that you are aware, cats are probably the cleanest animals on the planet. They may stink when they sh*t, but who doesn't??
They generally clean and preen themselves a few times per day and some I've know won't even use the litter box if it isn't scooped out. They can be a bit snobby actually. I would just suggest trying to spend some time with an animal. Start off slow and try petting them- it is a proven stress reliever also. Cats can be very temperamental, whereas dogs are more likely to just come up and beg for some attention. Cats usually socialize on thier own terms.
If you have a friend with pets you should try to spend some time with them, it will probably help your fear :)

go to the dog park or a petting zoo and put yourself in the middle of all the "disgusting" animals with a big batch of there food. the best way to get rid of a fear is to face it that's the best therapy. and animals are not disgusting your just thinking of the dirt out side not the animals

You have a phobia that is very real to you.No one knows why certain people have certain phobias but all that matters is that it bothers you. You need to see a Doctor that is trained in dealing
with the kind of phobias that you have. There is nothing wrong with asking for help.A doctor can help you realize that animals are not so bad and give you tips on coping with them in your life.
Good Luck!

First off, don't get a job at the Zoo.
Cats are dirty. People are dirty too.
If you are really afraid, try this...
Get a bowl full of goldfish.

some cats can be dirty, if you are so afraid maybe you should visit a household that has a nice indoor clean cat to get to know, they are awfully sweet animals

It is okay, everyone is afraid of something. your opinion is different about animals and that is okay. I don't like but some one less might. Fine, it isn't the end of the world
