My dog, a previously hyper-active mixed-terrier, had surgery on her rear leg to correct a torn ligament. Six weeks have passed now since the stitches were removed and she still hobble-hops around on three legs, keeping the injured leg raised.
The muscle-tone is turning to mush from lack of use and I am concerned that the leg is remaining useless and will require further scrutiny.

I read that Vets recommend that you should name your dog with a 2 syllabe word.

I'm looking to buy a gentle leader for my pit bull, but I am unsure what size to get. I followed the weight requirements when I bought his harness, and ended up having to go buy the bigger size because of his chest and shoulders. He is 52 lbs and the medium says for up to 60lbs... but I don't know if he's done growing? he is 9 months. His neck is 17.5 inches around. So, here is the question... Medium or Large?

I have a 5 mo old maltese. When I feed her she inhales her food. Its gone within 5 minutes or less and she does not chew it at all. She chews ice cubes, carrots, etc but when it comes to her dog food she does not chew. Should I be worried...Im assuming dogs can choke but she hasnt yet. Any ways I can get her to slow down and chew? And shes not going so fast and not chewing because of other dogs in the house she does it fast even by her self.

I have a 5 year old chocolate lab/golden (male) retriever and a 6 week old beagle (male). My lab is very jealous and hates just seeing the puppy in its crate. The lab will bark and push the crate while the puppy rolls around in the inside trying to play with the lab. What would you advice me to do? AND NO I WILL NOT LET THE PUPPY OUT of the crate, I'm afraid the lab will kill him.

Hello all,

As a dog lover I like to make sure that my dogs get the best nutrition. I have seen the difference in their coats as well as the firmness of their stool.

Currently I am using Nutro Brand Natural Choice lamb and rice. I've noticed that their stools are not firm like chocolate truffles. Much easier to clean up when they come out like truffles.

When they were eating Biljac the stools were truffle like, but I did not appreciate the ingredients as much. Nutro seems to have better ingredients, but the performance is not as good.

What is your experience in the best, natural, healthy food, that will yield a healthy stool? And preferably one that dogs will love.

And if you can provide pricing and ingredients that would be wonderful!

Thanks

If you're from California (Illinois has similar legislation) and you have a dog, take action now! Proposition SB 861 institutes mandatory spaying and neutering of all dogs of certain breeds. No exceptions would be made for show dogs, or breeder dogs. Leading to those breeds being excluded from competition (show dogs can't be spayed/ neutered) and the eventual extinction of certain breeds! Take action now! Visit this site, it has information on how to stop this TERRIBLE proposition from being passed. Blame the deed, not the breed!!!

I haven't seen him drink water in a few days and his urine has a stronger than usually odor. how can I tell if he is dehydrated or has an infection?

Also our cat died last week. can this have anything to do with him not drinking? They weren't real close but now he is the only four legged friend in the house.

I think pet owners should be tested before they are allowed to own a dog. That would prevent a lot of misbehaved dogs & will prevent almost all the upbringing of mean attack dogs. IT'S NOT THE DOG BUT THE WAY THE OWNER TRAINS IT!!!!!!!

My black lab was recently killed by a car. We are responsible pet owners but he escaped and must have gotten lost. We spent hours searching and started making fliers. Tugger, who was walked, knew the area and had escaped in the past (bolting out the front door) and would return home with a knock on the door. He would go to the lake and creek and romp in the field.....this time Tugger headed for the highway and although we searched Animal Control picked him up as a DOA. We are truly devestated. We as a family were able to say goodbye and pet him one last time and tell him he was a GOOD DOG. He truly was a loyal, faithful, loving, patient companion to myself and family. He even allowed three kittens to come live with us when he was 11 years old. I'd like to know he's in heaven and will greet us. I am considering the psychic who communicates with animals to help us heal our broken hearts....just knowing he's with loved ones will ease our sorrow. He was such a good dog.....

My dog is about 3 1/2 years old, and she is a yellow Labrador Retriever.

She has bruising on her stomach and some parts are red, and also on the inside of her right thigh, it looks wet/moist.

She also has a something that is white right in the center of her stomach/abdomen, where her hair begins. It looks like a mole.

She is also spayed.

I'm looking to adopt a puppy. Up until now, my family and I have been cat people, but I feel it is time for a change. I'd like to adopt a Siberian Husky or an Alaskan Maramute. Anyone know where I can adopt a puppy of either breed in Maryland? Also, tips for first-time owners are welcome.

Thank you.
