I'm looking to buy a gentle leader for my pit bull, but I am unsure what size to get. I followed the weight requirements when I bought his harness, and ended up having to go buy the bigger size because of his chest and shoulders. He is 52 lbs and the medium says for up to 60lbs... but I don't know if he's done growing? he is 9 months. His neck is 17.5 inches around. So, here is the question... Medium or Large?

I can't afford to buy both, and I have to buy online, as I live in Japan and there aren't any pet stores that have alot for big dogs

I would go witht he large as he is a pitt and will have a fiarly thick snout and that is the main thing you are trying to fit with the gentle leader.
They work very well and much better than a harness.
When you use a harness it spreads out the position of the pressure to the dogs chest and allows them to actually pull harder than if they were in a collar.
The gentle leader is easy to use and safe and will make walking much safer for you and the dog.
Good luck.

I swear, some of these people don't read when they answer.
He lives in JAPAN, and has to buy on line.
His dog doesn't respect the HARNESS that he has already purchased, and is now looking for the gentle lead.

I would go for the larger size, because at 9 months the pup isn't done growing yet, and pits have a huge jaw.

Good luck

If your dog is friendly - bring him to your local Petco or Pet Smart and have one of the associates fit a Gentle Leader on your dog and then your problem is solved. Most of the Gentle Leaders and Halti set ups are adjustable for a custom fit.

I would not recommend a harness for your breed of dog. Too much chest muscle and pit bulls have such tenacity. once you teach your pit bull how to walk using the Gentle Leader - you should continue instruction through Basic and Advanced Obedience.
