The gestation period for a *****(Female) is 65 days and they can begin to show visible signs around 22 days.
Did you witness a tie ( dogs stuck together )? Do you know the date your ***** came into heat?
Bitches are in heat for 21 days, and can get pregnant right in the middle, between day 9-13.
Some signs are rounded abdomen, softening of the hindflanks, swollen breasts, etc.
Don't depend on looking for "milk" as most females go to into a "false" state of pregnancy whether they are pregnant or not.
The female will also start nesting as well.
There's not much a human needs to do, other than provide good food, a whelping area ( a place to have the pups ) and safety.
ANd you'll have to find a home for the pups, start looking for homes at about 3 weeks of age ( don't let people handle them ) and they are ready to go to their new homes around 8 weeks.
Then you might want to look into getting the female spayed, as well...
Also, a vet can do an ultrasound at 27 days and count the pups, but the window is small for that. They can also palpitate and find the pups as well.
I can't believe yahoo edited out the name for a female dog... geez...

If you start noticing that ur female is acting funny, hidding from u, she most likely is searching for a comfortable spot to give labor and care for her litter.
Do not try to touch or move the litter from where it's stationed, remember although your dog loves u, at this moment nothing matter more to her than the safety of her litter and she may attack of.
In about 2 weeks or so, once the puppies can move around by themselves and you notice that your dog is back to her old self, approach her pups slowly, once again dont rush into the situation cause she only wants to protect the litter

Well, the way that I notice my dog pregnant was by the hardness of the belly and by the way the nipples are bigger than normal.Or you can pull on the dogs nipples to see if they are giving milk yet or some form of liquid coming out.Well, the thing that I did while my dog with giving birth I was wiping them off with a cloth making sure that my hands wouldn't touch them besides through the cloth. Than I put down something for them to all lay out on for when they are feeding. Put them in a large opened box or on some old blankets or somewhere they wont be disturbed by anyone but their mother and you or spouse. Make sure that the dog doesn't stop feeding them and make sure that she gets plenty to eat and drink so she can give her puppies the same nutrition.

The only way to tell for sure is have the vet test her. Being that you're not familiar with dog preganancy, you need to develop a very good relationship with your vet...ask lots of questions. You need to be prepared for a lot of problems...financially, and emotionally. No offense, but you should have done research on this or had her spayed before now. I really hope she's healthy enough for a pregnancy and current on all her shots. Depending on her breed and age, there is a very good chance she will need a c-section. These are not cheap! Start saving money now in case you will need it! Your vet will be able to give you lots of info to prepare you, and will be able to help you with all your concerns. As soon as she's able, get her spayed! The only people who shouldn't spay their dogs are those who KNOW they are going to breed them, have the dog's health certified, AND are professional, responsible breeders. Dog breeding is a lot of work, and is better left to those who have been doing it well for years.

When she gives birth if you are there be sure and break the sack if she doesn't. If you don't break the sack they will die from lack of oxygen. Sometimes a dog giving birth the first time want puncture the sack because she doesn't know what to do.

Keep an eye on here as her belly will look fuller and her nipples will get bigger. If you know when she may have done "it" count 63 days and this is about the time pups will be here. Let nature take over with the births, and keep an eye on her and do soooooo much research to help you both out!!!!!

you'll want an anal thermometer and take the dogs temperature. A dogs in exertions could have a temperature below one hundred and one tiers Fahrenheit. additionally in case you experience the dogs abdomen, you are able to experience her uterus contracting. The dogs will many times come across an area to deposit her puppies and could "dig" around the spot the place she intends to grant delivery. she would be in a position to start to %., pant and shiver 24 hours in the previous she supplies delivery.
