i read that blackpepper will stop the dogs from coming into the porch, but MY dogs seem to love the pepper. what else can i use that is environmentally safe?

Wal*Mart has a spray that will deter this kind of behavior.

Put up a screen of some kind. It could be a roll of chicken mesh or a type of barrier just like being used for toddlers not falling down stairs.
