I was speaking to the breader of my Irish Setter last night who said that one of her dogs was mated but 'missed'.

What does this mean - does it mean that she never fell pregnant or that she did and misscarried or that the puppies were still-born?

Just curious....

We want a dog that has a good personality and is playful outside, but is more relaxed inside since we don't have a garden. We'd rather it didnt bark since we live in terraced houses and the walls are fairly thin. What is the right dog for us?

I was on the way home from my job, and heard a loud noise. I look over, and there's a dog running in the street, and a car driving very slow. The dog is running in circles, and then speeds down a side street. The car kept going, and didn't go where the dog was heading. It made a left turn a few streets away. I am afraid the dog was hit by the car. I don't know the area, and the street the dog ran down is very dark. It was almost 3am. If it was earlier i would have gone down that street to see if i could find the dog, or i would have gone to a residence and knocked at the door. My heart sunk, because i really feel the dog was hit. I hope it didn't die, or get badly hurt! What would you do in that situation? Did i blunder by not going down that street and knocking at a door? I could only think that a person might know the dog's owner, but i had no idea what the dog looked like. He was about a block away when i saw the dog running in the street. i pray it isn't hurt or dead.

My boston terrier puppy (almost five months old) has blood in her stool. She's had looser stools than normal, which we took to mean we needed her to get used to the food she'd been on. She's finicky so it took us awhile to figure out what she'd eat. She's happy, VERY energetic, gaining weight. She woke us twice to go out last night (very rare since she can sleep through the night) and when I took her her bowels were looser than usual but still normal looking, and when my husband took her two hours later they were mucusy. When he wiped her, blood that was bright in color was on the tissue.
We're taking her to the vet today. Any ideas about the cause? She's under constant supervision, but I'm wondering if she could have ate something little like a pebble or a rock to cause this.

there are only two. it seems like one(girl) is constantly eating, and the other(boy) only eats a couple times a day. also, the girl seems to cry more and the boy is the runt. what could be the cause of such different eating habits? do you think that the girl is eating too much or the boy isnt eating enough? they are only 4 days old! is any of this reason for concern? please help me.

I am trying to decide what type of dogs elves would have. Like LOTR elves. I would think they would use cats for hunting as they are so stealthy, but dogs? Hmm, have to be for pleasure, but what breed?

I just wanted to say that tonight, during 4 hours of my shift at the emergency clinic, I saw approximately 9 dogs. Of these dogs, all but 2 were small or miniature breeds. Of these small dogs, all but 1 of them were trying to bite just while being examined. Funny, the one that didn't was the one that was painful.

And the owners of all of these little dogs that tried to bite repeatedly, responded by praising their little dogs, and laughing because they were "feisty."

Why is it ok for a small dog to be nasty and ill-mannered, with an owner that rewards the bad behavior? And why is it that perfectly wonderful pit bulls are maligned at every turn, just because some of them are not socialized and taken care of?

Aggressive dogs are aggressive dogs, no matter what the size. I say that the owners should be penalized, regardless of the size of the dog.

Why do dog lovers let their muts lick their faces? If I could lick my jacksy - which I can't - I'm sure you'd think twice before letting me lick your face.

Rottweiler, 10 weeks, been crate training for 3 weeks, always cries/ whines/ barks when placed in cage as if being punished. Tried shorter amounts of time, remaining in the area while she is in it, feeding her in/ out of the crate, but she still cries. She also chews her urine training pad into a million peices overnight!!! The only time she is hyper or misbehaves is in the crate.

My wife and I have three Jack Russell Terriers who mind pretty well, but when our neighbors dogs are out, and start barking, then our dogs get riled up and start barking. I've tried planting smaller barberry bushes but that doesn't help. The main problem is that our HOA decided on split rail fences with wire on one side.....now the dogs see each other and go after each other through the wire. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciate.
