I was on the way home from my job, and heard a loud noise. I look over, and there's a dog running in the street, and a car driving very slow. The dog is running in circles, and then speeds down a side street. The car kept going, and didn't go where the dog was heading. It made a left turn a few streets away. I am afraid the dog was hit by the car. I don't know the area, and the street the dog ran down is very dark. It was almost 3am. If it was earlier i would have gone down that street to see if i could find the dog, or i would have gone to a residence and knocked at the door. My heart sunk, because i really feel the dog was hit. I hope it didn't die, or get badly hurt! What would you do in that situation? Did i blunder by not going down that street and knocking at a door? I could only think that a person might know the dog's owner, but i had no idea what the dog looked like. He was about a block away when i saw the dog running in the street. i pray it isn't hurt or dead.

I know the feeling, I've seen at least 3 dogs in similar trouble while walking to school or the store. What you need to know from us is there really wasn't anything you could have done.

I think your empathy and awareness toward animals has been increased, and in the future, you will see an opportunity to help an animal in a significant way..

you did right in not following that poor dog .. you do not know the area and it is not safe to try to help a strange dog .. you do not know what the dog will do it already suffered from strangers
as I understood is that you heared the car hit the dog or so
I think it was best if you took the number of the car and called 911 or pet care center and described what you saw and where and leave the rest for them ..
but still when such things happen with someone we just do not think correctly or in the best interest .. reflections differ ..
good that you arrived home safe and could sleep .. like you I would have kept thinking of it all night

Why are you so sure the car hit the dog? Did you hear something? I hope you are wrong, you must feel terrible :( It was understandable that you didnt go down a dark street at 3 in the morning though. If you know anyone in the area you could ask them if they have heard anything about the dog.

that is ok no worries but in my opinion i could call the 911 and tell them i saw a dog running away and it loked like a hurt puppy but it was 3 am in te morning so no big deal but in the next time if u witnes that kind of a scene u call the plice and tell them about it and try to tell them the street u r into so they can find the dog and heal but don't worry u make sure that the dog in good care of god and tere is nothing u can do anyway hope that make u feel better :).

That's so sad. At 3am there's probably not a lot you could do. Unfortunately sometimes people lose control of their dog and it takes off, and often this is how it ends.

:( Hopefully the dog is OK.

stay away from any animal in pain there would have been a good chance that the dog would have bitten you if you had followed it.
you should have reported the fact there was an injured dog to the police and given them the name of the street

You did the right thing. You can't save every dogs life! It would not have been safe for you to go down an alley at 3am alone, in a place that you don't know.

I also know the feeling but you really have to just pray that the dog is okay and put it in GOD'S hands. I do hope the dog is okay and alive.

That is sad and tragic. You were most likely slightly shocked. It's good you had a heart to think about it and are thinking about it now. I hope the dog recovers.
