I had the same problem. Take them to the vet and get the pups checked if you haven't done it yet. Usually you get the pups checked at the vet at their 2nd day of age. If the vet sent you home saying the pups are healthy... then check the temperature in the room... if its too hot or too cold it causes a bit of uneasiness to the pups. Usually, the pups should all have a huge appetite of nursing since they are so young. If he doesn't eat from the mom try bottle feeding, if that doesn't work please talk with you're vet for the pup might be in danger... unless! if the male pup feeds on the mom "longer" and eating only a couple times it might make sense. But if he feeds the same amount of time as the girl... then consult with your vet. At this rate the pups health depends on mom's nutrition and her milk. Also, are you keeping the mother on puppy food? It's said by vets all over that you keep the nursing mother on puppy food so that the puppy food goes to the milk she's feeding her pups which provides major nuitrition. Good luck! If in doubt call the vet first!

I actually had a lab that had two babies. The girl was simply a B**ch. But the mom was not letting the boy eat as much. This mom was found as a stray and she had just had puppies and had run off from them. Animal control never did find them but that night in the shelter she had two more. They did keep them for a while because she refused to feed them and weren't sure if they were going to survive. Once I got them it was the same way the girl was huge compared to the boy and very loud. I finally had to separate mom and babies except for supervised nursing. The girl was louder because she was trying to force mom to feed her. The boy wasn't as forceful. Put him on mom and make sure he is the one turning away. You can make mom lay there and nurse him longer. Most momma dogs Ive had didn't want the babies. People want the babies for their own selfish desires.

Get a small accurate scale (Post office sells them to weigh mail) weigh each at the same time daily. If both are gaining weight all is hunky dory - if not, you may have to supplement the boy with a bottle of esplac.

I would suggest just to watch them and if you notice that the one not getting enough is not gaing weight take it to the vet. My dog had puppies and two werent gaining weight and it was because something in their mouth had not developed. I cant remember what it was but the vet had to care for them and tube feed them.

They should be plump, but not really fat. All puppies are different, and it makes sense that the female would cry more...Ha Ha.
