There are other ways of managing hip dysplasia. You should be starting her on a regimen of synovi msn, or glucosamine and chondroiton, or some other product that builds up the fluid in her joints to help movement less painful. As time goes by she will develop calcium deposits in that joint causing it to be bone on bone. Which is quite painful. If she is under 14 months old I suggest you find an orthopedic vet and look into getting a surgery done for he called a TPO. If she is over that age or you can't afford the few thousand dollars for the TPO she can have a femoral head osthectomy. Either way if she's a puppy I really don't think she should be put on pain meds this early on. While this medication WILL help her in the long run it's got a great chance of damaging her liver and/or kidneys. Do some research. Talk to other vets. The more you know on this subject the better equipped you will be to help her. I wish you both lots of luck.

Depending on the age I would look at surgery. SInce this is a pup you would be saving her from a life of pain meds and those can have side affects. Some dogs can not tolerate them long term.
You should be feeding a dog food with condroition and gulcosamine in it and giving it as a supplimant.
I have a dog who has displaysia and he is one dog food with condriotion and gulcosamine and is not on pain meds.
He is kept at a low weight not starved or anything but we do not let him get heavy and we limit his exercise to what he can handle comfortabley. He is 9 years old and does really good. He was on pain meds for awhile but had probelms and was vomiting them and so we stopped them. He was not really a good choice for surgery. So we chaged his lifestyle and went from there.
Get a second opinion and see what they think.

I hate to see any animal on pain meds for life.
The other options are the surgery or something called Gold Bead Implants. I had this done on one of mine a couple of years ago. She had been placed on Deramaxx "for life". After the implants, she was pain free. She had been having some serious pain attacks before the implants. I had mine done by Dr. Durkes in Marion, Ind. There are others who do it, but he invented the procedure. Misty never had another pain attack after the implants. There is a lot on the net about this, so do some research.
