Any dogs I like seem to be outrageously priced. Someone joked that it would be easier to have a kid! Not my sentiments, but I'm wondering why the price of pets has gone up so dramatically. Is it because more people aren't having children and are buying pets instead. I know it is in part due to the tremendous amount of stress and the high costs breeders have to pay out of pocket, but why else? I've only come across one breeder willing to drop the price of their pups. Sorry that was so long. Any info would help. :)

Why do dogs have to have rabies vaccinations every year, when humans only need other vaccinations once in a lifetime?
My dog has to have them once a year and it frustrates me. Please tell me, the person with the best explanation will get 10 points!

We just got a free Standard Dashaund almost two months ago, and the previous owners say that he is only 1 year and 6 months old, but his behavior portrays him as much older? Other than taking him to the Vet, is there another way to tell?

i have astupid beagle and i play with her and feed her twice a day-half a cup of kibbles each meal. she is a small breed so dont tell me im not feeding her enough. she thinks i can play with her all day and it gets anoying especially when she starts to whine and bark and even howl... <- this is like challenging me to chase after her, or catch her, or play with her. i just hate it. any ways to just get through to her? i mean i DO play with her... but taking her out on walks hasnt become part of my daily routine. maybe its the walks that are bugging her? but then she comes into my house and runs around for like an hour and then thats like excersise right? so ok... how to shut her up besides getting her spayed or neutered or watever?

sry if this is a dumb question.

and dont say hit her cus that is definitely a solution but she wiill end up hating me.

any tricks to tame her or... make her shut up? a soft hit on the back? or wat? help pls. thx.

I have a 4 month old australian shepherd pup who has what the vet says is an umbilical hernia.I bought her to put into shows, and a possible mate for my other aussie.Should I have this removed or wait and see if it goes away on its own?It is about the size of a quarter.Doesnt seem to bother her any.Her breeder says I shouldnt worry about it,that the mom did it by biting the umbilical cord. This pup is the neice of my 2nd aussie so,I am familiar with the breeder and she would not steer me wrong.
Any info will be appreciated.

My friend and I just got a dog that is 1.5 years old. He was sweet the first day but the last two days he has been acting up a lot. When I lay down to sleep he jumps on me and he bites a lot, playfully, but I dont want him to bite at all. In general he is just very aggressive, always jumping on us and biting. And then yesterday we left for an hour and when we came back he had tore up the entire living room. There was paper and stuff everywhere. And one more thing...he's starting to pick up things with his mouth and walk off with them, and chew things. He has a chew toy. We just dont know what to do! Help!

He's 2 years old and ever since we got him at 6 weeks he's never liked you touching his paws. He doesn't clean himself, like I've seen other dogs do but he's obsessive about licking his paws as I've seen - and heard! - him licking away at them for about 45 minutes total a day. If I touch them, like "hold his hand" he pulls away or licks my hand because he knows I don't like it to make me let go. With most people he'll nip or mouth their hand until they let go. Is this normal? Has anyone had any experience like it?

Each time a Pit Bull kills another person, usually a child, a whole bunch of PB owners say the dogs aren't bad, just the owners. This must mean that as a group PB owners are worse than other dog owners so their opinion shouldn't count anyway. So, do you think they are idiots, or just terribly insecure or something?

This afternoon I took my dog to have a haircut, bath, and flea dip. (She looks sooo cute, but that's beside the point!) I got home and immediately put a new flea collar on her as well as a fresh dose of flea medicine. When I was giving her a belly rub I noticed that there is some flea dirt on her chest. What should I do? It's only been a few hours since she got back from the groomer's. Is it possible that she already has fleas, despite the dip and treatment? Or did they do something improperly with the flea dip at the groomer's? Should I go back to them and ask for another one? Please help me, I try so hard to keep the fleas away and I'm worried that I'm seeing some "dirt" so soon after her dip!

I've been researching this breed and they seem like perfect guardians. I understand that this is a breed that MUST be trained and SOCIALIZED.

I would love to hear about anyone else's experience with them, especially any single women.
