Any dogs I like seem to be outrageously priced. Someone joked that it would be easier to have a kid! Not my sentiments, but I'm wondering why the price of pets has gone up so dramatically. Is it because more people aren't having children and are buying pets instead. I know it is in part due to the tremendous amount of stress and the high costs breeders have to pay out of pocket, but why else? I've only come across one breeder willing to drop the price of their pups. Sorry that was so long. Any info would help. :)

I really wanted a doxie, but people were charging anywhere from 400-2000 dollars for one. I took everyone's advice and submitted an application to a dachshund rescue in AZ. I'm waiting for their reply. The adoption fees are just as expensive, (some are 500), but atleast I'll be helping a young pup. :) Thanks guys.

I've got my appointment at the doxie rescue in AZ and have been approved for adoption. I've got a meeting to Huie from the NotSoGrande Dog rescue. I'm also going to look at Grace and Bart. :) Thanks guys.

I'm not sure why puppies are expensive, but I would really like to know! If you want a free or low-priced puppy go to: www.petfinder.com

They are so expensive because people are willing to pay the price. I agree, go to the humane society you're saving a life.
Plus there is no such thing as a free dog.. it may not cost you to bring that dog home but vet care can really add up, trust me.
and when people say they got their dog from a breeder and it's a cock a poo or a golden doodle or one of those MIXES i just want to tell them..you know thats not a real breed right?

I bought my puppy from an animal shelter. She cost $30, and I got 50-90% discounts on vaccinations, registration and desexing.
I saved her life because she was due to be put down in 1/2 an hour. She is beautiful, loving, loyal, lively, well-behaved and in 6 years has never needed to go to the vet.
I can't imagine why anyone except a breeder would need a purebred dog.
Save money, and save a life!

Breeders are just out for the money. Try looking for a breed specific dog rescue, or try looking at your local animal shelter. There are a lot of dogs out there in rescues and shelters that desperately need good homes. You can also try checking out the website Petfinder.com to search for certain breeds at rescues or shelters in your area.

I would look into rescue and shelter dogs... they need homes the most, if you are looking for a dog to show or breed, that is one thing but if you just want one to love, just take a look at those that need that love the most. I have purebred and mixed dogs... and they both came from shelters. Regardless of their blood they are both part of the family.
