Each time a Pit Bull kills another person, usually a child, a whole bunch of PB owners say the dogs aren't bad, just the owners. This must mean that as a group PB owners are worse than other dog owners so their opinion shouldn't count anyway. So, do you think they are idiots, or just terribly insecure or something?

that's a good point you have about the owners justifying the breed, I think that a lot of people who want vicious dogs will get pit bulls b/c they're easily trained to be biters and killers.

I hear so many stories in the news about these dogs turning on their owners and other people, and then the people that i know that have pitbulls, say "no way, my 5 year old clmbs all over the dog and pulls his ears" and it's like... "are you crazy??" .... anyway I don't think all pitbull ownes are idiots, I think the ones who are in denial about the potential viciousness of the dogs are idiots

If you are insecure you should not own a pit bull. A person must be strong in order to train one the right way. If 1 out of 1000 pits attack then there would have been something like 10,000 pit attacks last year. There was 56 deaths by dog attacks last year,3 were by pit bulls, 3 by rotts, the rest were by what is consider good family dogs, one was a Pomeranian that killed a six week old baby. 3 dachshund attack a 18 old teen and put him in the hospital, good news they were able to to put the three fingers they bit off back on. Last year there were 440000deaths by cigarettes, 42,366 by cars, 29330 by hand guns, 2000 children were killed by parents. That group who's opinion should not count, Helen Keller, G. Patton, Michael J Fox, Fred Aster, Presidents Wilson and T. Roosevelt, JFKenndy Jr. The media lies who wants to hear a Labrador Retriever killed someone when more people will watch when the reporter can look shocked and say a pit bull did it. Happened here twice last month. Because of that two wrong dogs were put down ,one the that did it attacked a policeman, luckily he shot it. You have let TV and newspapers shape your mind. Do some homework and think for yourself. Of coarse none of this will do any good you are closed minded and don't want to know the truth, it's just to hard to think for yourself. Most insecure persons are like that

I do not think all pitbull owners are idiots. There are some pitbulls that are friendly as they can be and will not hurt anything, I have had a couple of them that was no kind of vicious. But then you have those that do treat the dogs bad and make them mean and they are the ones that are idiots. I do not think that all pitbull owners of dogs that attack people are bad, sometimes it is the bloodline in the pit that makes them bad, and the owners of the pit that attacked or killed are innocent of mistreating and neglecting their dog. Some pits are just terrible and born to kill, but there are others that are as sweet as they can be. pitbulls do not bite more than any other breed, pitbulls are the ones that get the most attention because people hate them and fear them so much. when someone mentions a pitbull they will automatically show fear because the name. DOGS can sense fear, and fear attracts therefore alot of people get bit because they show fear. SHEPHARDS, CHOWS, SAINT BERNARDS, ROTTS, AKITAS, DOBERMANS, all use to have just as bad reputation as the pit does now. In fact, in reality they still have a bad one but people seem to only focus on the pit and ignore the rest.

Here is one for ya, My dad has always told me it isn't the size of the dog that matters they all have teeth and jaws they all can do damage, big or small, but when a percentage of people start hating something, then you hear of that more than anything else, before long it seems like everyone is against that one thing because a high percentage of people already are, and people seem to follow whether they know anything about the breed or anything else. Then all other facts about other breeds are ignored. Everyone has a right to their own opinion and i am giving mine.

"Pit Bulls attack more people than any other breed." Bite statistics actually show otherwise. More popular breeds that are generally considered to be "nice dogs" top the majority of lists. It may seem to the general public who is constantly bombarded with disturbing reports on Pit Bull attacks that this is the only breed that harms humans with any great regularity. However, the fact remains that Pit Bulls are hot news items. Dogs of all breeds and mixes bite and attack people all the time, but it is mainly the Pit Bull bites that get sensationalized. A report about the local Golden Retriever that attacks and maims a child isn't considered newsworthy. No one wants to believe that any dogs--even the fuzzy, cute, popular ones--are capable of biting. It's much easier to blow up and sensationalize a story about a vicious dog when it's a member of a breed who's reputation preceeds it. Pit Bulls are already considered the demons. All the reporters have to do is stand in front of the camera, look horrified, and say, "A Pit Bull did it".
As a nation we have failed to protect these dogs just because of thier breed. You would be mad if you were abused like these animals have been. Mahatma Gandhi said:" A greatness of a nation and it's moral progree can be judged by the way it's animals are treated." Going by these great words we as a nation fail with people like you taking the lead.

Pit bulls are used as police, serch and rescue, theropy and handicapped dogs. The CDC andASPCA puts pitbulls at the buttom of the list as dogs that attack. In fact you have a 0.00004% chance. Helen Keller used a pit bull as her sight dog.
BSL is a flawed concept from the moment it is conceived. In most cases the dogs are targeted leaving the owner, which is the responsible, rational thinking party, out of it.

Some impose fines along with their laws but are often not enforced to the maximum so the owner gets away with a slap on the wrist.
Dogs are not the problem and BSL does not reconize this. People are the problem and until we find a way to punish people for their neglectful actions which allow dogs to bite and terrorize the public we will never stop the problem.

First problem is, take one breed away, these people will find another breed to replace it.

Since the APBT bans the Rottweiler is now on the rise as the most popular breed.

Now these dogs are taking heat from the general public and the BSL supporters. Again they are restricting the dogs and not the people.
BSL can be compared to gender profiling or racial profiling. Simply because a dog appears to be a dog on the restricted list it is treated as one.

What if you were driving down the road and the police took you to jail, sentenced you, and placed you on death row just for looking like a certain ethnic group? BSL does exactly that to dogs.

So why is it then that more BSL laws are implemented daily? God forbid a person have to take responsibility for their irresponsible actions and BSL supports these people by not placing very harsh punishments on them.

They are not idiots! I own a pit bull mix! I don't care how many times you hear this but it is the owner! And everyone's opinion should count! A pit bull is just another dog and there is nothing bad about them individualy, even though their reputation in general is horrable it's not true. My pit acts like a cat! She sits on your lap and looks out the window. She has never hurt anyone and we've had her for 4 years in September. Other breeds have hurt people too and nobody badmouths them! I'm sorry if you don't care about my opinion. It hurts me how much people badmouth pits. Have you ever thoght of that! Some people like me love this breed! If you knew what one was really like you wouldn't be able to say this! I know you don't care but you hurt me and may have hurt other peoples feelings by asking this stupid question! They are sweet and what you are saying is horrable! And we pit bull owners are not worse they are better! Why don't you try owning one! We take in the breed that apparently only idiots want! If you train a breed like a lab or even a cocker spainiel they could be fighting dogs too! Try learning about them before you say more awful things about them!
I love the answer the person before me gave. It is true!

Pit Bulls were bred to be agressive. But that does not mean that that dog will be agressive. YOU make a dog agressive when you put it into fights with other dogs, and beat it. There are many cases with other breeds attacking people and I don't hear crap about people complaining and saying a Golden retriever is a bad dog to own, and I was personally attacked by one! I have a pitbull, and she does just fine with other people because she is nurtured and cared for. And I have been around other pitbulls, and have never been attacked unless I made the wrong move like moving to quickly, or sounding agressive myself. So the people who are idiots are the ones saying that pitbulls are bad dogs, because they've probably never had one, and knows nothing about the breed except the fact that they were/are used in dog fights.

The ONLY dog owner that is worse than OTHER dog owners are the ones that put the pitbulls in dog fights, or mistreat their dogs. They are meant to be dominant, and you don't establish from an earlier age that you're dominant you're going to be the one in trouble. And I could see why little children got attacked probably because they were joking with the dog, and they aren't the joking type just like chihuahuas(I know they're smaller..not my point).

Now not to say that the breed in a whole is the perfect dog to own, but before you start complaining you have to know that this a dominant and agressive breed, so what do you expect. I personally just have no problem with them.

You are exactly the type of people that society needs to be afraid of not pitbulls! I suppose you have a whole list of things that "frighten" you, and I'm sure that you have no knowledge on 99% of the subjects. I own 7 of these magnificent dogs, and you need to be more concerned about me then my dogs, as they are like my children and I don't take kindly to an uneducated ill comments! First of all yes these dogs are powerful and yes if they are in the wrong hands and get provoked they can do a lot of damage. However look any any study of temperment in dogs, and as far as bad temperment goes Pitbulls are 4th, FROM THE BOTTOM! Labs, golden retreivers, cocker spaniels, I mean I could go on and on , all far more aggressive and bite 100 times more often, but where is the news coverage on that? Secondly I have had a lot of children and adults babies included all around my dogs and please bet that nothing would ever happen to the child with my pits as their babysitter, least of all from the dogs! BSL (stands for breed specific legislation that is trying to ban these magnificent animals from certain areas) BSL stands for Bull **** Law in my opinion, and I have the sticker on my car with a dog peeing on the BSL (everyone should get one!) I could go on and on, but generally you can't educate the ignorant, so I won't waste any more of either of time, let me just leave you with these words of wisdom....
1.) Punish the deed, not the breed!

2.) " Any society that would give up a little liberty, to gain a little security, will deserve neither and lose both." Benjamin Franklin
P.S. To all of you saying that they are breed to fight, and that is the reason for the aggression? Wrong again! Game dogs are aggressive toward other animals not humans. A long time ago when these dogs first started out they were animal herders, and bull baiters, when they did fight in the pit, if they were aggreesive towards humans in any way they were immeadiately killed (TERRIBLE!) so they were never breed to be human aggressive, that is an undesirable trait. They are actually listed as terrible dogs for protection because they are too friendly and not people aggressive. But fortunately because of all the uneducated idiots out there I can walk my dogs and people jump out of the way, all I can say is thanks for the extra sidewalk space, as my dogs just smile with their tongues wagging at these idiots. Have you all never heard that, "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, then to speak and remove all doubt."

Not necessarily, but pit bulls are sweet dogs naturally, but are bred to be very aggressive to other dogs. It's just that they're so popular that they've been inbred alot, especially in the last 10 to 15 years. There are many, many dog maulings that happen in the US every day, but the only ones that get any media coverage are the pit bulls. I worked at a vet clinic for over 5 years, and the meanest dog I've ever seen was a cocker spaniel. That dog was just plain crazy, it was later euthanized, because the owner couldn't control it any longer. Best of luck to you...........

Don't talk about somthing you have no idea about. Pit bull type dogs are not naturally aressive towards people. Look at the history of the breed. People who originated the breed bred it to control livestock, not to harm people. It is incredibily impractible and immposible to breed a dog that hates people. It is possible to make them hate people after birth, however. Also, If pit bull type dogs are socialized at an early age with other dogs and animals, their natural aggresion towards other animals can be avoided. People who typically own pit bull types are idiots who want to look cool and know nothing about the breed. The pit bull type dog, if socialized, can make a good family pet. Talk to your grandparents or other elderly people. They will tell you about years ago when the pit bull was not the enemy. Fear of a certain breed is almost always a fad, usually abanded with education.
I work at a shelter. I see the good, the bad, and the ugly. Trust me on this one. All pitties are not bad. Please educate yourself and do us all a favor.
