This afternoon I took my dog to have a haircut, bath, and flea dip. (She looks sooo cute, but that's beside the point!) I got home and immediately put a new flea collar on her as well as a fresh dose of flea medicine. When I was giving her a belly rub I noticed that there is some flea dirt on her chest. What should I do? It's only been a few hours since she got back from the groomer's. Is it possible that she already has fleas, despite the dip and treatment? Or did they do something improperly with the flea dip at the groomer's? Should I go back to them and ask for another one? Please help me, I try so hard to keep the fleas away and I'm worried that I'm seeing some "dirt" so soon after her dip!

I just put a new collar on her because she'd been wearing the old one for several months. Someone mentioned that it was a lot of treatment - should I take it off? I've never experienced problems before, but of course I want to do what's best for her. :)

It depends on what kind of dip or flea control that the groomer used. You don't want to dip your dog more than once a week. It is possible that you have fleas in your house and in your yard, and I would recommend that you treat both of these. A flea will only stay on your dog to feed, then jump off. In the meantime, find a good flea powder and put that on your dog. As far as a dip....I would recommend Paramite dip by Vet Kem. It stinks....but it works good, and has good residual effect. Have your groomer give her a paramite dip next week. Best of luck to you.

On my dog, I use a flea control called "Advantage". It is available at the vets. office and some feed stores. This is the best thing that I found for my dog. I tried using different types of flea dip on him years ago, but they all just irritated his skin, and the fleas came back. Advantage is by far the best stuff that I have found.

That seems like awful lot of flea control (dip, collar, and flea medicine). I'd stick with flea medicine such as Frontline Plus and comb/brush her daily. If you think you are seeing fleas -- take her back and let the grooming manager look at her.

you should not do no extra flea control if groomer dipped, she could get sick.......in a week or so after another bath........try frontline, its a good flea control
