Cocker spaniels like any other breed of dog have their good points and not so good points because they are all different. Some are goofy some are stubborn some easy going. They usually are great dogs and very playful. As a breed they can become a little possessive of their family, also more than some other breeds they can suffer from seperation anxiety but again not all cockers are like this at all. They are a breed that needs to be groomed with regularity to keep that beautiful coat silky and pretty. they do shed a lot but all dogs do except for a very few breeds like poodles whose hair just grows and grows so it has to be groomed regularly. Like any dog they need regular exercise. Also when purchasing a cocker or any breed go to a good breeder and do not buy out of a pet store as those dogs come from puppy mills and genetic problems are all to common in them the most common are eye problems and deafness.

The kind of cocker you get is dependant upon where you get it. Cockers as a breed are generally good with kids- they are friendly, sweet natured, energetic and loyal. However, there is a high trend to produce cockers in puppy mills which can produce bad breeding habits and negative traits. if you do choose to get a cocker, be careful where you get one from. Pet stores are a no no! They practically always are puppy mills. And no they don't shed too much but you do have to take care of their fur by brushing and bathing them properly. Avoid a traditional cocker cut if you want less of a head ache.

My friend has a Cocker. She has a younger brother and when ever I've visited he's been wonderful! I'm not really sure if they shed. All breeds of dog are good! Good luck!

I have a Cocker. Very high energy. Some can be very nippy and unfriendly with strangers. They tend to pee a lot when they get excited. I would say not the best with kids. Good dogs are labs if you want a big dog, or beagles or cairn terriers if you want a smaller dog.

don't have them now, but grew up with them...they can be good with kids as long as there's no interbred issues (as cockers have a tendancy to DO) if they have fur, they will shed. we kept our cockers shaved up. mutts can be the very best pets, a lot of the full breed dogs can be a little intense around kids. my advice? visit some shelters or rescue centers. some of the BEST pets we ever had while our kids were young were from resue shelters. good luck in finding the pet of your choice!!

I grew up with them. My mother also had a daycare in our home and they were great with the kids. They are sweet, loving dogs that are always happy.,Just remember in most cases, it's not breed that tempers the dog, it's the owner and how they are raised. The don't really shed much, but they do require grooming or their hair gets matted.

cockers can be high-strung. I prefer springer spaniels.
