In the same litter of kittens can each kitten have a different father - or is the same male the father of all?

About two months ago, the neighbors across the street had an electrical fire in their house. They asked me to keep their cat until the repairs are done. They are living in an apt. where they can't have a pet. They don't come to visit the cat, have provided nothing towards its care, etc. I love cats, so I don't mind and he is a nice cat. Only problem is he is about 7 months old and not neutered. I have no way to contact them. I am afraid this cat may start to spray. My guys are all spayed & neutered, so not worried about kittens, but I wonder if I can get the cat neutered without their permission. There is no licensing, etc. in our area, so I guess possession is 9/10ths of the law. They are kind of weird, and, when they got the kitten I mentioned that a male was cheaper to neuter, and he got all bent out of shape about neutering males. If you were me, would you neuter this cat and not care what they thought? He's not a purebred, so they won't be breeding for profit.

I've learned that cats purr for other reasons other than happiness, such as nervousness. So if my cat cuddles with me and purrs, how do I know if he doesn't mind the petting or if he's saying: "I like cuddling with you, but i don't like the petting, but I don't want to fight."

My cat has had a large, mobile lump on his neck for ages, but my parents never got round to taking him to the vet. Now they're away and I've noticed the lump has burst, and his fur is now wet and matted in the area. He seems fine within himself, eating normally and everything. I don't drive and the vet is ages away and not open on the weekends anyway, Im not sure what to do. Could anyone suggest what it could be and what I should do, ie dress the area or anything? Thank You.

Cat was born in 1998. She has NOT been 'fixed'. Is primarily a 'house cat'. Hasn't been injured (to our knowledge). We lost a cat last year who was older (born in 1992) that had the same thinning of hair where the tail meets the body. Need to know how serious this condition could get. Thanks!

As many of you know, I had set up a website to find homes for the street cats in my neighborhood. I took a number of months off work for the project (I'm also paying for them all to be desexed, vaccinated etc)...I have to move overseas in 2 weeks. On Thursday Yahoo shut the site down and took all my emails from me, of course, including all those from potential adopters. It worked out ok for me as I discovered godaddy (which is much cheaper) but now there are many cats that won't be able to get into homes. Do you agree with yahoo taking all emails directed to a charitable website aimed at re-homing stray cats? It had no advertising etc. and the cats weren't "for sale".
Thanks

I am considering trimming my cat's nails to prevent scratching of me and of furniture. How much does this help? Does is reduce furniture damage? How much? How much does it prevent a person from being scratched?

I have found some good webpages on how to trim a cats nail so I don't need to know the procedure but any interesting tips are welcome. Thanks

Our cat has to take antibiotics in chewable pill form. I've tried putting it in his food but he won't eat it. I don't think he'd eat all of it if I crushed it in his food because he doesn't always eat all his food, even if it's just a small amount. If it put it in his mouth he spits it out. The vet told me to put it far back in his mouth, but I can't get it back there because he pushes it out so quickly with his tongue. Can someone please tell me how to get him to swallow his medicine?

I have a 6 mo. old male kitten that has been very active, loving and playful. About 2 weeks ago he had diarrehia and became very inactive with a huge loss of appetite. We took him to the vet and she found a slightly higher level of the organism Giardia. She gave us antibiotics to give him for the last 10 days. He finished the meds about 2 days ago and while the diarrehia is gone he is still very lethargic, still has a very small appetite and it looks as though his belly is a little swollen (he is still a small kitty but his belly looks larger on his frame now). He also looks like he is uncomfortable walking/jumping and lies down quite frequently as he walks around. He has no interest still in playing. I am very concerned since before he got sick he would love to run around and play and eat all his food everyday. Could he still be tired from the meds? Could this have to do with the fact that he is loosing his baby teeth and new teeth are growing in now?? Help!

Okay, people may not agree with this, but becuase i bought (yes bought, becuase its a pedigree cat.) my male a year and a half ago, and he's a house cat, i decided to buy him a female companion (and again, yes Buy) ... They've been together 2 weeks, at first i thought they'd be vicious, or it'd lead to the male abusing the female kitten.

But this is entirely not the case -_-
The male cat cleans her like a mother cat, and honestly half the time has to sleep ontop of the tv to get away from her... when i feed the male cat, the female kitten pushes him away from this own foodbowl, and constantly follows him around, trying to bite her legs and his tail... Is this normal? or is my male cat queer or something? -_-

Plus one thing i've noticed is the female kitten has black bits in her fur, now we know she has flea's, and since we got her, the flea collars have worked tremendously, but theres black bits in her fur, are they flea eggs, or dirt caused by lack of grooming?

4 weeks ago i got a puppy and i have 2 cats, one of the cats is fine with him but the other just stalks the puppy and if it comes to near to him he scratches the puppy - the puppy doesn't even go near him on purpose and stays away from the cat. The cat has scratched him so many times we are wrorried he will catch him in the eye. Everytime the puppy goes into another room the cat follows him. The cat is fine with humans but hates other animals including the other cat. We had a dog untill it died about 4 years ago and the cat was ok with her but when we got the cat the dog was older and the cat was a kitten. We tell the cat off when he scratches the puppy but it doesn't seem to be doing anything, and we dont want to get a crate for the puppy. We have also tried to separate the cat from the puppy but as soon as we let him out he starts looking for the puppy again. Is there a way to get the cat to accept the puppy?
