Whats the best way to house-train a cat?

I asked my vet the same question and she told me that if I confined the kitten (very little kitten at the time) to a small space and put the litter box in there, the kitten would use it automatically. After it used the litter a few times, then it knows where to go. You can then put your litter box whereever you want to. Just make sure if you do this, then you take your cat and show them where you moved the litter.

I don't know if this will work on older cats that have already decided where they want to go, but good luck!

Well, the kittens mother trained her. But, the best way is put her the litter box several times a day. It will work. And id you run out of the the same kitty litter than buy the same on again for about a month until he/she will be used to the litter box. Worked for me.

You shouldn't need to. Make sure you have one or two litter boxes easily available for it. Cats like litter, and prefer to use it rather than almost any surface. Some cats will go in potted plants. If your cat is peeing outside the litter box, it has another problem. It could be psychological, and it is angry at you or someone else in your home. It could be a physical problem. Peeing outside the litterbox is a common symptom of health problems, especially bladder infection.

If you have litter boxes available, and the cat isn't using them (other than going in potted plants) then you'll need to talk to your vet about it.

Cats by nature will go automatically in a litter box. just set the kitten in it several times a day for the first few days, they will get the idea...it's quite easy.....by the way...best cat litter on the market is Arm & Hammer......no smell in the house!
