I have a 2 yr old cat, his last vaccines were given in August '07. At the end on January I am getting a 6 week old kitten from a friend whose family cat recently had kittens. I am wondering if my vaccinated cat can catch anything serious (besides fleas) from the kitten. Also, at what age is a kitten vaccinated? I am new to raising a kitten, as I got my cat when he was already full grown. I am most worried about FIV, but I'm pretty sure my cat was vaccinated against it.

I have a 14 or 15 wk old pit puppy that was given to me. He seemed fine when I 1st got him 2 wks ago, but since then he has started to throw up, has loose stool(VERY STINKY), he has bad gas, and sleeps most of the time. I was told he was dewormed once and will need to be dewormed again, but I dont know when he was dewomed so I dont know when I can do it again without hurting him. Also I was told he hasn't had any shots yet. Does anyone know what could be wrong with him? Is it worms? What can I do to help him?

For the past couple weeks a cat showed up at my door, I feed other strays, but this one is a kitten and has a little red collar on him. I know that he belongs to someone, but there is no address on the collar and he's been coming every night and I see him running around during the day. The cat looks like he is getting bigger and I was thinking of cutting his collar off so that he doesn't choke, it's already a little snug looking. Should I do this since he is not my cat? or should I just try to find a way to loosen it? No one has responded to a flyer I put by the mailboxes.

This is my dog; I found her in a shelter in Poland. She has no records of her parents. What breeds do you think she has in her?

These pictures show her growing up.

First Picture is the day I brought her home (at 7-8 weeks) Last picture (over a year old):

We've decided to help a local rescue organization by fostering some puppies (and mom, if she's with them). We know that we've got some puppies headed our way on Wednesday, but don't know the details yet - how many, what breed, etc. If there are more than two pupppies, we think we'll have to house them in a penned off area in our basement, instead of in the kitchen with a baby gate up to keep them enclosed. I've just been pricing dog pens online & they run anywhere from $60 to well over $100.

Are there any pet store chains that will offer a discount or donation to me, if I let them know that this purchase would be to help rescued pets?

I have a 1 year old pitbull that needs knee surgery in both of her legs. She's the sweetest dog I've ever had, but because of her knees, her legs will give-out and she'll fall over occasionaly while she's walking... Its horrible to watch and I know she's in pain. Each knee will cost me around $1500 - $2000. Total cost of almost $4000. I can't afford to give her this surgery. What can I do??

I have a little kitten about 12 weeks old. She's really weak and tired today. She just lays down in the middle of the floor totally limp. We thought she was dead, but she was still breathing and her eyes were open, just totally limp. She walks around a bit, then just goes limp until someone moves her. Her nose is pale white, she's not purring like she usually does, she's totally limp in your hands, and she was sneezing a lot earlier today. I think I'm going to call the vet, but does anyone know what else I should do?

How do you personally feel about chaining a dog? I ran across the account below and it made me wonder what the law would do if this had happened in my state.

http://www.dogsdeservebetter.org/doogieletter.html

This is long, but for people who don't want to click on the links:

Here is the background info:

We got a call from Kim Eicher in East Freedom 9/11/06, crying because Doogie hadn't gotten up since Saturday. She had been calling the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society since Saturday to no avail. We told her we aren't law officers, and she needed to call the Humane Officer. We told her to make sure she left a message, very clearly, about the problem. Then we got another call about the same dog, from another person who passes him every day. At that point we called Kim back to see if she'd heard from the Humane Officer. She had not, was very, very upset and we were very worried about him, so we promised her we'd go out and see what we could do.

Since my dog became old enough at 3 months (now 5 months) I have taken my male boxer puppy to the dog park 4-5 times a week.... that has been the greatest thing ever for both him and me!.... he is much calmer and the socialization makes him much better around other people and dogs.... he is ROWDY!! he will take on 100 plus pound rottweilers, great danes no matter the size and wrestle until they beat him half to death LOL.... the only dogs he is scared if is the little yippy dogs lol

no real question here just wanted to see what other people think about the dog park

thanks

I am looking for a dog that's great with kids and other pets. One that is easy to train and care for. Also what do you all think about doberman and akita? Are they good dogs to have with a small yard, and are they messy or clean?

Is it safe if I put a water heater into a bucket were my fishes are?

The tank sprung a leak so we moved everyone into a plastic bucket.

Would it be a problem if I put the aquarium heater into the bucket?

I am doing this now....but wondering if I should pull it out before a fire starts or something.

A prompt reply would be great!!

Thanks

I have a 7 month old female great dane and she's at about 93 pounds. I'm not sure how tall she is yet because I haven't measured her. Is she normal for this age?? Will she continue to grow in height? Or is she done?? She doesn't seem to have grown that much from 5 months in the height department. What age do they stop growing? She is spayed, she was spayed short of 6 months. She's our first one so I just wasn't exactly sure when they stop growing. I've done some research and keep getting conflicting info. Thanks!

Me again! I have the lab/pitt mix and the 4 month rott both males. Ok my puppy tends to get mouthy with us, (meaning my three daughters, me and hubby) its not hard enough to break skin, but when I try all the methods of stopping him, he stares at me and then barks. I know thats not a good thing, but I also notice SOMETIMES his little nub (tail) going so I dont know how to take it. I DON'T WANT HIM BITING ANYONE! Yes hes is puppy classes, but he doesn't demonstrate this behavior with anyone else. "NO/NO BITE!" doesn't work at all.

Besides the nostril pinch, verbal commands, grabbing of the snout with fingers pushing inward so its like the pup is biting himself, what else is there? Please don't say crate him because that is his comfort zone and I DON'T want to make that a punishment room.

I really don't know what to do. My aquarium is as green as it can ever get. I've treated it many times but this time it doesn't work?! I think the algae adapted to the treatments lol. I've tried about 4 different brands of algae control, none of them made any changes at all. I've tried scrubbing and water changes. I've tried blocking alot of sunlight out. I've tried all I can in the past 5 months, its been solid green for 5 monthes straight! My ph is good, my amonia is good, my temp is good. My fish are perfectly fine, just the tank looks horrible. Can anyone help me please. Thanks alot.

I am trying to housebreak this dog, he has relapsed after more than six months- closer to a year!

Anyhoo... people keep telling me reward the positive (if I give fata$$ a treat every time he takes a whiz outside he'll explode) but to completely ignore the negative, in other words do nothing whatsoever if he whizzes on the rug.

Now tell me, I took psych courses, Pavlov dealt with dogs in his studies... What I remember is that positive reinforcement for + behavior, negative reinforcement (punishment) for negative behavior had the quickest teaching results.

WHY are people telling me not to punish my dog for whizzing on the rug???? Isn't that sending a message that I DON'T MIND?? 'Cause I do!!! I mind a lot!!
