How many people take their dog to the doggy park?

Since my dog became old enough at 3 months (now 5 months) I have taken my male boxer puppy to the dog park 4-5 times a week.... that has been the greatest thing ever for both him and me!.... he is much calmer and the socialization makes him much better around other people and dogs.... he is ROWDY!! he will take on 100 plus pound rottweilers, great danes no matter the size and wrestle until they beat him half to death LOL.... the only dogs he is scared if is the little yippy dogs lol

no real question here just wanted to see what other people think about the dog park

Seems several of you all have had bad experiences with the parks.... I guess I'm lucky 90% of the dogs where I go are cleaner than mine.... occasionally you get two dominant males that don't like each other but they are quickly broken up and separated.....
the only part I don't like about the park is the cleanup afterwards!... never fails he goes in the water then gets in a knock down drag out fight in the mud and looks like a homeless dog before we leave lol

as far as worrying about them being scared when they get there... my dog wasn't even officially old enough to be there and the first time I let him loose he took off full speed and jumped on top of a 100 pound rottweiler and took a beating for 30 minutes and LOVED every second of it LOL

thats funny i was thinking about that yesterday. well charlie (my puppy) will probably find a place to hide if he sees all those dogs at once. the poor thing started to cry hen he went to the vets office.

I take my dogs to the "bark park" for the sheer socialization aspect and it's fun. Most people have bad experiences because they are not watching their dog well enough or other people are not doing the same. Not all dogs are going to get along. Which ever dog is the aggravator, the owner should be asked to leash the dog or asked to leave. I have never had any reservations about asking anyone to leash their dog or doing so with my own dog. Also, too many people over react to natural "pack order" playing. Dogs get rough, act tough, growl, bark, nip, body slam, etc. It's just the canine way of sorting out who's who. I'm all for everyone going to "bark parks" as long as the people bringing dogs in are responsible and aware.

The only concern I have with Dog Parks is when pet owners do not supervise their dog or their dog is aggressive. Also, I cannot believe the number of pet parents that bring young puppies to the park without all of their vaccination shots, and plop them on the ground to fend for themselves!

Dog Parks serve a purpose, dogs can get exercise in a safe environment, socialize with other dogs and pet parents can network! I learn a lot about other breeds, how to care for specific problems and share wonderful stories about our precious dogs!

Please be cautious during the hot months, as allowing your dog to drink water from a community water fountain can lead to exposure to disease and illness!

It would be nice if we lived in a society that allowed dogs to move freely with us throughout our businesses and recreation. The more responsibility pet owners show (cleaning up after their pet, controlling their pet/training, proper health care/vaccinations), the more chances that this will be our future!

We used to take our goldens to the dog park but have stopped because the other owners don't watch their dogs. Our dominant one, a female, will not tolerate being dominated (via "humping") and will give a warning and then lash out if it doesn't stop. She has never shown aggression or anything before, and this is the only time I see her get tense. I mean, she is a golden retriever!! She has never actually hurt another dog or bitten one but there is the chance...It is sad, because her and her sister love to run and play tennis ball but because other people won't keep an eye on their dogs and keep them off of mine, we can't go anymore...

Nope, I don't go there.

My dog is intact (well, was up until a week ago and he's 12) and he is very alpha. He spends the whole time posturing and trying to stand tall, he's too worried about being dominant to bother to play. He doesn't start fights, but if he encounters another alpha-macho man they'll get into a scuffle.

He does better with my 2 other dogs and friends dogs.

My dog loves the park. He loves running around and getting the other dogs to chase him. The worst thing is that here in S. Florida, its usually just way too hot to even want to go to the park.

i take my male skye terrier to dog park once a week
just because everytime i found him in a pile of leaves and then it hard to get them out of his coat
but i had some problem when i first took him he was scared of other dogs and they were chasing him but now hes a playfull and sometimes stubborn puppy that digs a lot

No never have and never would . I have heard so many horror stories about this and have seen it myself just watching the doggy parks. i have seen so many people sit down and never keep their eyes on their dogs ,they instead keep their attention to the conversation they are having with other dog owners . Most of the dogs i have encountered have massive infestations of fleas and about half of them had no tags on leaving me to wonder if they even had their shots ., I saw one mans dog attack another one and he did not even come over and see if the other dog was alright he and his dog just left . Most of the ppl there are morons . No thank you one observation and trip to the doggy park was enough to convenice me that I did not want my dog there or anywhere near there . I love the dog park but because I have Bull Terriers we can't go there. Other dogs have a problem with the wierd body language of my breed a lot of times and will attack them. So we go and have our fun further afield. We would love to play but Bullies get Bullied. :(

We have two labs, try not taking them to the park atleast twice a week. They will drive you nuts! They love swimming and running around and the other dogs!
