the vet said parvo is like chicken pox, once they get it she cant get it again .. she told me that, then she went on to say when shes done with treatment, to come back in for four different parvo shots .. if shes immune, does she techincally need them? i mean i know it wont hurt for her to get them, but is it necessary to spend the 250 dollars that they wanna charge me, or are they just trying to make their money? trust me, ive been through alot with her in the week and a half ive had her, and if i have to get them i will, i just want to know if thats too much or if i dont really have to :D i guess its better to be safe than sorry.

It's not at any particular time, I just noticed him trying to rub up against it. It's not his butt, just the side of his body. I'm wondering if it's fleas and he's trying to scratch them? Any ideas?

My vet thinks my dog's limp could be a torn ligament and I was wondering if anyone knows of pet insurance companies that cover pre-existing conditions even if they do so after an initial waiting period or even if they cover them at a lower rate? Alternatively do veterinary colleges ever perform expensive surgery at reduced rates for students to gain experience? If so, which veterinary colleges?

Our dog's had dry skin ever since he was a puppy. Even the vet said it's not fleas. We've tried a little baby oil in his bath water, but it helps only so long. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?

I was told that I could give my dog childrens benedryl for an allergic reaction. I was also told that I could give him a little more than what to give a child. I'm not sure of what age group to use or how long to use it. I want serious repies please.

I was not bashing shanked bits or different mouth pieces, I may not have put my post together in way to get my point across but I did add to it, hopefully those who took it as me bashing them for using a shanked bit can now understand what I was trying to say. I too use shanked bits and snaffles, depending on level of training, the job at hand, etc. etc. And you are absolutely correct... ANY BIT is only as harsh as the riders hands.

I woke up today to find my 11 pound jack russel had chewed up a thermometer. It was about three inches long, and an inch around. I think I was able to find most of the glass, but I am sure some of it was ate. Also, what are the chances of her getting mercury poisoning from this? Should I try feeding her a cotton ball (apparently it says that collects sharp objects), or bread ... or something? I'm actually mostly worried about the mercury.

I am asking this because I keep hearing all this "natural" stuff but yet the same people are using or promoting severe mouth pieces on their horses. A snaffle provides a "nutcracker" action to the mouth, the tongue, lips and bars and if used and/or fitted incorrectly (which not many talk about)can be very damaging to the horse. I was also wondering what everyone considers a snaffle... snaffle does not mean a jointed mouth piece, it means any bit that does not have leverage. A snaffle does not have a purchase and/or shanks.

Jointed mouth - nutcracker action
Mullen mouth - very mild mouth piece
French mouth - reduces the "nutcracker" very mild
Dr. Bristol - slightly more severe than the french link
Slow Twist - "nutcracker" style, stronger and more severe.
Cork Screw - Severe
Single and double twisted wire - two of the most severe

Also, when selecting a mouth piece for you horse do you consider that he may have a flat pallet?

"...leave sleeping dogs lie?"

I'm serious!

Because, when my dogs cry or growl, as they're sleeping, it breaks my heart... thinking they maybe dreaming something that may be hurting them!

I just want to wake them to take them away from it... & let them know they are ok!!

Is this wrong??
