problem with my betta?

about a week ago i asked why he was on his side and got great answers back. i did what the answers said to do and now he's still on his side but he keeps flaring. i want to know if he is going to be alright or is this nearing the end? he's also having a lot of trouble moving around and stuff. i know that he had the swimmers bladder problem i just want to know what is going on?

Hi LorLor1,

I saw your previous question and the answers and you did get some good answers. Assuming you let the fish go withoput food for a day or so and then fed it something gfull of fiber like a pea and he's still floating on his side, you are probably not dealing with constipation but instead your fish has a swim bladder infection. These two things seem almost the same at first and it's practically impossible to tell which is the problem so you did the right thing to treat for constipation first.

You will now need to treat your betta with antibiotics to treat the infection. Treat two ways; first with medicine in the water, andalso with medicated food. Both are available at any decent pet store. Get the medicated food for bacterial infections and I would suggest Furanase, Furan-2 or Maracyn TC for the antibiotic. Treat as the package directs for at least 10 days while also feeding the medicated food. Keep feeding the medicated food for 2-3 weeks after you finish the other treatment, just to be sure the infection is all cleared up.

probably nearing the end, depends on how bad the bladder problem got, he could have permanent damage. I had a betta once that swam at an angle for two years
